Online, every day, we see a classic misuse of the keyboard. Most often, we see this misuse conducted by THOSE L33T ONLINE GAMERZ WHO USE CAPS ALL THE DAMN TIME...and stuff. Well, here I offer a guide to my fellow online peers who need a crash course with the keyboard since most keyboard makers assume you already know how to use a keyboard. Those silly keyboard manufacturers!

Let's start with an overview.

The above is the common keyboard. Let's go to the key numbered "1".

The Tilda Key

This little guy's name is the tilda key. We don't use him much, but some people think he's an apostrophe. Don't make this mistake, or Canadian Mounties will break down your door, ey?

The Caps Lock Key

Say hi to the caps lock key. Hi, caps lock key! Many people make the unfortunate mishap of turning on Mr. Lock and then leaving him on all day. Fortunately, they made a light to tell you if it's on. Here's what it looks like.

As you can clearly see, there's one labeled "caps lock". Believe it or not, this little light will turn on when you turn on your caps lock. Check this light every so often or just see if your typing LOOKS LIKE THIS, WHICH MEANS YOUR CAPS LOCK IS ALMOST DEFINITELY ON.

The Shift Key

Here's a key many are unfamiliar with. It's the shift key. What's it do? Shift you into drive? Well, it doesn't. This isn't a car, you beef jerkey. When you hold this key down and push one of those crazy letter keys, it makes that key capitalized. Similar to the caps lock, but it goes off when you let go.

The Enter Key

Ah, the enter key. This one puts a new line into your typing. See how there's a line between each key description? I pushed the enter key and got that! Crazy, isn't it? Use it to separate your ideas and make sense.

The Apostrophe Key

Ah, the apostrophe! Remember the key I warned you might confuse with the tilda? This is that key. This key is used to form contractions, such as "it's", "they're", and "he'll". I'd explain how to use it correctly, but you probably wouldn't get it anyway.

Well, I'm afraid we're all out of time for today. Tune in next time when we describe the period, man's best friend. Learn how to make several sentences instead of just one!

No offense meant by this post. I just thought it'd be kinda funny...
