For it seems my friend had overdosed on ecstasy and died.
I didn't know her that well. We met 'cause we had the same first name, though we were complete opposites. She was perky and optomistic, I was depressed and angry at the world. She really didn't seem like the type to do drugs, though. I didn't know her that well, but it still shocked me.
But that wasn't the thing that turned Sol into Angry Sol.
She died at the Alpha Lounge, a cyber cafe. The owner there didn't promote drugs or let anyone do drugs or drink on the premises, but Nicole was still found dead of an overdose on a couch there. That wasn't what turned Sol into Angry Sol. What did was the article itself.
It was titled "For internet gamers, death is real". It foused less on the actual death, the actual case, and focused on the place where she died. While not actually attacking gamers, the article painted them in the worst possible light. I'm attempting to quote here, though this is from memory - the article referred to the people there as "blurry eyed teenagers who stare at the flickering screens all day and all night".
The entire article used my friend's death to make a shot at gamers.
Sol is an Angry Sol.
Using a death to take a shot at games = pure evil.

BTW Ecstacy is bad.
Why not let your anger subdue to a simmer instead of a boil, and then write a letter to their managing editor telling him/her just how low and editorially biased that article was. Be firm but not offensive and maybe invite the editor to come and talk to some real gamers to get the other - real - side of the gaming industry.
An agressive response will make matters worse, but you should not let such a base, sensationalist piece go without correction.

actually that one's not too bad. Arttemis has had around that. of course, we're not sure whether or not it's affected him either way recently. he says the pain subsides after the first thousand or so.

Was this the same article Solstyce was talking about? Because this one does seem to attack anything, except the drug itself. Doesn't seem to say anything against internet gamers, other than being distracted. Don't think it was the same article.
I don't get why her death was played in this light. If she had died in a sports bar, nobody would try to blame sports for her death. It's just messed up on several different levels.

One of my old school friends hung herself a good few years ago now, I had drifted away from her since i joined Secondary school, but it still upset me, Although i don't agree with a verdict of "death by misadventure" that's what it's looked upon as, I think Laura knew better than that, although we were about 12 or 13 at the time i still think she knew what she was doing, I guess i'll never know though.
I'm very sorry this has happened, and it's a very cheap shot at us gamers, but my condolences go out to you.
