Incorrect spanky.
See pets are really a two part spell. You cast the pet on a target. The first part is the action of casting a pet, expressed by a little dust cloud or some glitter effect around the target. This draws aggro on you, but by the time that's happened the pet's already on the thing and overrides that aggro.
The catch is that if you chain cast pets too quickly, you will aggro the mob after the first one dies. Space out your pets evenly, and you will not.
I know because I did this endlessly in the Tomb of Mithra.

Ah, so that's why the critters didn't want to stay with my pets when I set multiples on 'em...so how long should I wait to cast follow-up pets? (The problem here, of course, is that the only pets I have at the moment are the level seven ice and level one air pet...)
I generally count to four slowly. Also, casting too many pets will always cause the mob to aggro on you. You want to find a nice balance of just the right number of pets and just the right amount of nukes for the mob you're fighting.
I could reliably solo purple deamons at level 8 with this tactic (it just took too long to be worthwhile, heh).
Also, don't be afraid to finish a mob off with melee. Stength of earth rocks [ 12-02-2001: Message edited by: Koska Kintaro ]
