- Those two guys who said the Sept. 11 attacks were God's wrath.
- The grand inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition.
- The head honcho of the Ku Klux Klan.
I need about 9 people total along those lines.

Was given my final project in a class recently, and I've decided what I'm going to do for it. Rather than bore you with the potentially offensive details, I ask of you to name people who have done some very bad things or have just generally acted like total assholes on the name of Jesus and Christianity. I need specific people, not groups of people (like the people who burned witches). I have some ideas of who to include:- Those two guys who said the Sept. 11 attacks were God's wrath.

Crusades are probally a good start.

It was Hitler, but I'm unsure about whether he believed in it or he was just using it as one of many excuses for his war against jews.
I thought about using him, and I might if I need more people.
And Gikk, I would be happy to include your grandfather in my assignment, but I would need a good deal of background info on him. While the assignment calls for famous people only, I can put an ordinary person in so long as I fill my quota of famous types.
From An Underground Education, by Richard Zacks:
quote:
...Pope Gregory VII (in office 1073-1085), who decreed that popes had absolute authority to crown emporers and kinfs. He wanted to bring all temporal power under his spiritual power, and his listed twenty-seven papal rights, including:
- "The Roman Church has never erred nor can it err until the end of time."
- "The pope can be judged by no one."
- "The pope alone offers his foot to be kissed by princes."
- "A rightly elected pope, is, without question, a saint, made so by the merits of Peter."
How's that?

I wish I were the Pope.
That could be a very good one to add to my assignment.
