You can't charm pets, thats the thing, it is supposed to tell you "This NPC isn't charmable."

Yeah, so I'm kindof baffled about it too.
I thought they did away with that long ago. Didn't really bother do experiment with it any since then.

Well, obviously you can, because you just did

Perhaps the Glare Lord itself was dead by the time you charmed it, that might have removed it's 'Non-Charmable' flag.

Possibly, there were 4 of them, slipped with the hotkeys, nailed Boltran`s instead of Dazzle. Everyone got buff stripped. hehe.

but if you killed the master wouldn't the pet poof? Or do NPC pets not do that? It's been a long time since I played

EQ NPCs, being some of the most infuriating cheaters I've ever seen in my life, are able to control their pets from beyond the grave.
