You mean like Magick, or Magicks?

In a lot of fantasy worlds (and in Whitewolf) Magick is true, as in it's the thing with fireballs and stuff, while Magic is pulling rabbits out of hats.

But that's not quite right either. Pulling rabits out of hats already has a word for it: Prestidigitation. It's the art of creating the illusion that you can work magic.

Since a true prestidigitationist's goal is to convince his audience that he can work magic, people came to confuse the definitions of prestidigitation and magic.

Ok guys, I didn't want to do this but here goes:

Yes, I know it's not spelled damb. Yes, I know it's spelled damn. I started a thread bashing deliberate misspellings that contained a deliberate misspelling. I thought it ironic to do so, and thus funny. I apparently thought wrong.

It would've been funny, except that this isn't the first time you've used the "word" damb. Nor is it the first time you've insisted on "damb" being the correct spelling. Therefore WE BARSH YOU!

Personally? I happen to think "magick" looks more magical than "magic" which is an almost every-day word we see in English all the time and therefore, to MY mind, retains absolutely no mysticism. So, when I'm speaking of magic, as in the ability to cast spells and conjure things into exsistance and so on, I prefer the word magick.

Is it a deliberate misspelling? Yes. Do I give a flying fuck? Hell no! (And Ford is 100% right. This is by far not the first time you've insisted that "damn" is spelled "damb", so quit throwing stones or I'm gonna send some Globe photographers to your glass house. )

the k in Magik was added in the last 100 years to seperate real magik from the illusions that people call magic in modern days.

Actually, I missed the connection entirely.

It's one thing to have religious beliefs. It's quite another to tell me I have to believe them, too. If you're going to do the latter, you need proof.

Actually, in White Wolf, Magick is the stuff that breaks the laws of reality, and Magic is the weaker stuff that works WITH the laws of reality.

Magick=Attempt to level Tokyo, die from Paradox backlash
Magic=Brewing a whisky that will get even a Fianna Ahroun trashed after one swig, but that's all you can do.

As for other uses, sometimes there IS a difference. Such as:

Magic=Casting spells, summoning bunnies into hats
Magick=Firing up people's immaginations and belief till THEY (without realizing it) cast the spell or summon the hat bunny

I believe in the existance of magic, not because I have seen proof of its existance, but because I refuse to live in a world where it does not exist.

there are several spellings of "magic"

Magic
Magick
Magik
Majick
Majik

which is right?

all of them

Majick/Majick is preferred by most Wiccans and Druids because to them it's the true spelling for what they do.

Magic is basicaly basterdised from Majik.jick for like stage shows.. Hudini, Copperfield.. people like that. hand tricks, smoke and mirrors, a *really* limber body...

Does it matter? na not really

I, honestly, dont prefer it. I think it's just a bastardization of magic. But that's just the ramblings of a closet Wiccan. :Þ Everyone's entitled to their own opinions

Someone added the "K" 'cause they thought it made them cool to do so. A couple people fell for it, and since it looked so cool (or should I say Kool?) they started doing it themselves.

I hereby abolish the K. It's unnecessary.

The "k" is not a recent addition. It's more of a going back to the medieval form to ellicit an ancient feel for the word.
