Nope. Total Sci-Fi.
If you watch it hoping to see a Final Fantasy game made into a movie, you won't enjoy it.
If you watch it just to see an interesting Sci-Fi with a strange touch of metaphysics, you will like it.
If you watch it because your cable company's CEO has flipped and has started showing Barney on all channels, then I pitty you.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I did notice some parallels to some of the FF games and in the movie. E.G. Gaia theory, Planet Dieing, "Lifestream", Meteor striking the Earth, Supporting character dieing, etc.
Oh yah. That's what makes it a "Final Fantasy" movie, instead of just another Sci-Fi.
It's missing alot of the game elements, but it has alot of the plot elements, especally from FF7.
