It's probably because we consider ourselves one of the 'good guys'. And Assassinations are a very dirty and underhanded way of doing things. We perfer a bomb to the front door to a bullet to the head from two hundred yards.
Saddam Hussien may have been part of this. If he was, he'll be a target as well. And the Taliban, the leaders of Afghanistan, are a collective of Islamic Fanatics. Taking out just one of them wouldn't stop the oppression that the Afghani people have been going thru.
The US will have it's revenge. It's only a matter of time. The President asked for $20 billion. He got 40 
The US isn't dropping the ball on this one.
What concerns me is the aftermath of that, though. An entire world of countries realizing that the US has made it legal to off those outside it's power who are giving them fits. And then the slippery slope begins... how much wood can a wood chuck chuck before a wood chuck gets shot in the head?
