...As an enchanter. I've mentioned him a few times on other threads, but I'll ask for public opinion cause I do NOT want to dump him in 40 levels cause I realize he is useless, like I did my druid. That being said...

I've a question. I know enchanters are liked for crack and mezzes, and a bunch of buffs and the like. Now, I'm wondering, is an enchanter a good choice for a character which would have an easy time finding groups, and being useful in them? Or should I go with the sure bet, a cleric?

There are less enchanters then there are clerics.

Enchanters are fun. I play one personally. I like the fact that you can solo good (at low/moderate levels) and group effeciently. While it's certainly not mana effecient, the first DD you recieve outdamages a mage's DD. Pop that on with Mez/Tashan/Root, and you've got a good solo combo

Oh, and dont forget they get a toned down version of Invisibility at level one: Minor Illusion. I use it all the time for medding

They sound fun. I'd play one, but...

Go for Ranger, they're over powered!

It doesn't really matter. Both are wanted equally. The only problem with those classes is you can only have one in a group. We had a group earlier with a 59 Rogue, 57 Rogue, and 55 Rogue. Stuff couldn't live long enough to even hurt the tank! =/

I'd go with Enchanter, personally, having played them both to 50+. Cleric is so friggen boring most of the time. At least you can get a LITTLE excitement as an Enchanter every now and then.

Enchies are DAMN fun. Can get annoying, being the only class with cra... I mean Clarity, but with a Druid, you've prolly learned to deal with assholes. At low levels, they're great soloers AND group members... but as you get up in levels, they become more and more dependant on a group to the point of barely being able to solo at all. Soloing with charm is RISKY AS ALL HELL. Chainstunning eats mana and if one thing goes wrong, you're a stain.

However, if things go right, which they so often do, you find this incredible, godlike power at your fingertips. You're the traffic light that tells critters when to go or stop. You can annoy the fuck out of something, then make them forget you did a thing and wander off wondering how it got it's ass beat. They're the absolute best for powerleveling, can PL a caster like you wouldn't beleive, and are in my opinion the single most fun class in the game. You've got tricks up your sleeve as a 'Chanter, faction is rarely a problem and you've got the potential to be damn, DAMN rich. They're just... fun to play.

Shhh. Everyone will hear us. Everyone will know.

I didn't have the patience to be a chanter. I tried for a long time, but it was frickin' annoying. At lower levels it's a lot of fun. You do your thing and all is well. But when I was playing the Enchanter Ja`Deth over on Innoruuk and got to the point where I could stoplight critters in a spawn, it pissed me off that every moron in the universe would then attack. So I'd say that lowbies you're having fun, then you go through an insanely annoying nerve-wracking period when everyone's learning how to interact with you, then it's gold again.

Clerics are fun. On Luclin, for some reason, there's an on-again, off-again cleric shortage. I know in the highest levels, clerics are rare. My friend has a 52nd level cleric and the moment he logs in he starts getting tells from raid groups who need a cleric. Then everyone has clerics in the 30's to about 41, then there are like no clerics between 20-30, then there are clerics from 15-20, then no clerics from 10-15 (I have an 11th level cleric and soon as I log in most places I get tells. The Warrens were great because no one was there pestering me).

So you have to ask yourself HOW useful you want to be. Keep in mind clerics are often seen as a one-note character more than Druids. Most tanks would just as soon have you set yourself to /follow them and just do that and heal. Do things otherwise and people bitch bitch bitch. *shrugs* Then again I'm bitter about the whole thing, which is why most of my characters are men-at-arms, and my only caster-only character on my primary server (Luclin) is a mage.

Chanters are great, the most busy class after bards IMO. You'll be always wanted in dungeon groups, especially after lvl 45. If you have LOTS of cash on your hands (think 2 Bloodpoints, Myrlo Armor, CoF) you might want to twink a rogue, very powerfull class IMO, but they get really boring after a while.
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

Well I'm continuing my Ench I guess

Is Dark Elf (agnostic, of course) a good choice for an enchanter, even with the low (yet easily raisable) CHA?

As my brother would say, yes. When most people see high elf enchanters they think 'pretty' enchanter. However, Dark Elf enchanters take skill and hard work, instead of get cha up high and then feel you are done.

Dark Elves have the second highest int in the game. They also have Ultravision from level 1, not to mention Neriak is one of THE best places to get spells. Charisma isn't AS important as some people make it out to be.

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

An increasing number of Enchanters are abandoning Charisma entirely. I have personally grouped several times in the planes and various other raid situations with two of my guild's enchanters. One maintains 200 charisma and about 198 int. The other has forsaken charisma and only has around 100, but he has 200 int and the rest is resists.

I honestly notice no difference in competence between the two.

Look at my enchanter. Eomer.

Edit: Enchanters are fun. Dark Elves are a very nice race for enchanters, and being agnostic is recommended. And other freaks like me (Human-Karana, and I believe Skaw is the same... might be wrong) have a bit of a harder time getting into some cities. Too bad they nerfed the minor illusion. You used to be able to do a sequence of illusions w/jboots to make yourself run around in minor illusion. Imagine putting a staff of writhing on the ground, using minor illusion (turns you into the nearest object, which would be the staff) and walking around. Put levitate on and Voila! Instant newbie freak-out.

And my enchanter has LOTS of stuff he can switch around for resists/hp/mana.

Bumping this a bit for another aspect

Raid level
I heard enchanters were crack bitches more than ever on raids... And that Druids actually do something on then. I've been considering moving Kit to Zeb again.

Any high levels (Pesco? Snoota?) could enlighten me on this one?

Yes, Enchanters tend to be crack/speed dealers on higher level raids, and an enchanter has almost no use except buffing against 100% MR mobs, but they are still the crowd control for raids.

Don't know about druids, don't pay attention to them.

No! Not the Crotch! Please not the Crotch!

I love my Enchie.

I love choking things and then watching them run away and timing how long it takes them to die.

Or mezzing mobs and then emoting making funny faces at them, or flipping them off or such.

Enchies are such fun

WTF am I thinking about anyway... All classes have clear roles, I should go with what I find fun. For now, that's not starting over as L6. I guess Kitudo is coming back to Prexus for a while!
