No, no Mort, this isn't the same as the old faction system. You can't chase after newbies with it.

This is new IMPROVED Faction! As I'm sure you're all well aware, the strip's been down for a while, mainly due to costs of running the server while it's up. (It currently costs $400+ per month just for the forums, imagine triple or quadruple that for when the site is in full swing)
So, I've had to come up with a way to bring in revenue to offset the costs of running the strip. When the strip returns in the very near future, either part of the archives, or the newest strips will be available to site subscribers only.
This is where faction comes in. If you're an active, positive member of the EC Community, your faction will go up. When your faction reaches a certain threshold, you'll be given free access to the subscriber sections of the site. My way of saying thanks for sticking around. 
You can view your current faction by going to the My Profile link at the top of any forum page.
Your faction goes up through active involvement on the boards, and goes up even faster through active involvement in the IRC server at irc.evercrest.com. It goes down any time any of your posts need to be moderated, or otherwise at my discretion.
Currently, having low faction will not ban you or suspend your account or anything, faction is ONLY a beneficial thing. But I may decide to change that in the future and have it work like faction used to work.
