They say that the new race is going to be "uncorrupted Draenei", which from their description, isn't uncorrupt Draenai at all. The description they give more resembles The Broken. Thing is, The Broken are still allied with Illidan, and unless they've further mutated since TFT happened, the Outlands Draenai don't have tails, and aren't as big as tauren.
Another possible race/creature that matches up with Gamespy's rather vague description is a rather unlikely, but cool, choice. The Eredar. Hooves? Check. Scaly tail? Check. Size of a Tauren? Check.
Just some rumors floating around because of Gamespy opening their mouths. Either way, let this be the thread that is used when the Alliance race is announced in the next few days. Willias fucked around with this message on 05-08-2006 at 10:33 PM.

Uh, no. The Eredar ARE the burning legion. Saying they would join the alliance is like saying the Titans would join the horde.

The Burning Legion is pretty fucked for the most part, and they're probably looking to get rid of Illidan. Kil'Jaeden (admittedly, an Eredar) is the only leader of the Legion left. Unlike the Blood Elves, which are looking to join up with Kael'Thas, who is teamed up with Illidan.
Horde gets a race that wants to be with Illidan (though likely ends up finding out that they actually don't want anything to do with Kael or Illidan), Alliance gets a race that hates Illidan's guts.
Also, Eredar are masters of manipulation, and if they WANTED to get into the Alliance or get the Alliance's help, they'd probably find a way. Likely, returning the king of Stormwind, and would vow to assist the Night Elves remove Illidan from power in the Outland. (Though the Night Elves would also greatly despise teaming up with an evil demonic race of any kind.)
Finally, there is a place the Eredar could use as a starting point on Kalimdor. Hyjal.
Though the new race will likely end up being Draenai. Just sounds wierd to hear that the Draenai in the Outlands have grown to the size of a tauren, and have grown tails.

Edit: And there's also the chance that the guy who made the Gamespy post didn't actually see the new Alliance race and doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

Edit: Misspelt Draenei. D:
I mean, he survived the portal through the well of eternity collapsing around him, I can't imagine them just dropping it there for him. He is a freaking titan!
The burning legion is far from fucked. The Eredar were it's lieutenants and it's "brains" essentially, but there's also Mannoroth's race of demons and the myriad other evil races assembled and imprisoned by Sargeras.
But the bottom line is that in order for the Eredar to be a playable race, they'd need to be nerfed to shit and back. We're talking immortal demons that have been accumulating power in the twisting nether since before the dawn of time. All of a sudden you're going to make one and be all "/1 aaahh I'm a level 1 immortal demon that has been accumulating power in the twisting nether since before the dawn of time dying to Hogger. Help Help!"
It's not something people hear about.
Right now is just a lot of bitchfesting from the mage community, so we'll likely see changes to the mage talent review as I can't think of a single mage that's said "I like them! ^_^"
