Players: 2-4
Brief Description: Wizards Duel is a turn based strategy game which might be best described as a mix between Final Fantasy Tactics and Magic: The Gathering. The objective of the game is to be the last Wizard alive by destroying your opponents with a combination of powerful spells and summoned creatures.
Definitions
Wizard: The king pin for each players force. If a player looses their wizard, they lose the game. Wizards can summon creatures to aid them and cast powerful spells. Each wizard has a certain amount of control which is used to maintain the creatures they summon, and generates a certain amount of mana from the powerpoints they control, which is used to cast spells and enchantments. Wizards are masterful at one element, and spells and enchantments of this element will be more successful, while spells and enchantments of the opposing element will be less effective. The wizard will always generate 2 mana points of their own element every turn.
Deck: At the beginning of the game, the player chooses an elemental color for their wizard and picks criteria for a randomly generated deck. The player may choose the maximum cost of spells (IE: 3 fire 4 water 1 air 8 control) to effect what cards end up in their deck.
Control: When a game is created the host chooses the amount of control the wizards have. Higher control pools mean larger armies for every player, but tend to make the game a more impersonal battle between mobs of creatures.
Creature: A summon-able minion. Creatures fight to the death for the wizard that summons them and can be enchanted, but the more powerful the creature, the more control is needed to keep them in check. Different creatures have different stats which effect how well they can defend and attack, what type of terrain they can cross, and how they react to various spells.
EXAMPLES:
Giant Bat
2Control 1 Air needed
2atk/1def/3hp
Strong: Air
Weak: Water
Movement: Any/5tiles
Fire Sprite
4 Control 3 Fire needed
4atk/2def/5hp
Strong: Fire
Weak: Water
Movement: No Water/3 tiles
Spell: An attack or enchantment which the Wizard casts in battle. The wizard can cast as many spells as he has the mana to cast each turn.
EXAMPLES:
Fireball
Effect 2 tile
Range 4 tile
2 fire needed
4 damage to all units.
Water Shield
Effect 1 unit
Range 2 tile
2 water 1 air needed
-1 to all elemental damage but earth
Duration: game
Mana: All mana is colored for the element it is drawn from. Controlling powerpoints generates mana. Mana is generated every turn, and does not accumulate over turns.
Powerpoints: Randomly placed tiles on the map which must be controlled. Control can be gained when a player or players creature walks over a tile. A skillful player will attempt to control all the tiles for their elemental color while preventing their opponents from gaining control of their own colors.
Elemental Color: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water all spells require an amount of mana from various colors to cast. More powerful spells will require more than one type of mana. Mana can be gathered from powerpoints or by standing near a nexus.
Nexus: A circle on the map where one element dominates the others. Within this circle, spells and creatures of a certain element are more powerful, and wizards may gather mana by being within the nexus at the beginning of their turn.
Turn Description:
When a turn begins, each player is credited with mana from all the powerpoints they currently control, and given one new card. They have a set amount of time (determined by the host) to move their units attack, and cast their spells. Summoned creatures may move once and attack once, wizards may move once but cast as many spells as their mana allows.

Victory is achieved by defeating the enemy wizard. Each wizard starts the game with 20 hit points.

I'm going to use dxframework for my engine. It is open source (gpl protected) c++ directX 2d/3d game engine with tcp/ip networking built right in. I will spend the next couple of days getting familiar with the engine before starting game programming on the 10th.

I volunteer for 1, 2, and 4. Send me a PM for anything ya need.
I'm sorry, but I will not do any sexual favors so...almost anything.
As far as the Card Design, what do you mean? The artwork for them? I could probably do that. If you wanted the fantasy style ala Magic look, type of artwork anyway. As weird as it sounds, simplistic art styles like Anime and what not totally confuzzle me, just like sprites (Too Simple). Not my forte. Simplistic as I can get is Comic book style.
If you mean something else by card design entirely, than I mostly likely cannot help you. [ 01-05-2004: Message edited by: Faelynn LeAndris ]
The first part is the actual balancing of the creatures, spells, and enchantments. I will probibly need some help with this, but I want to do most of the groundwork myself. My goal is to have at least 25 cards for every color and 10 cards for every color mix.
The second part is the actual art creation. I'll need to figure out how to set up the lay out of every card and get some pictures to put in them. I'd be happy to get help with that. If you would like to create some comic book style bats and tree-ents and fireballs and lightning bolts and whirlwinds and such, I'll make sure to find a use for all of them. Good Treants or Bad Treants?
I tend to be good at balancing stuff out as well, are far as benefits and negatives (With DnD Heavy customization being a lot of what I do) Just depends on what type of format (Powers, Ratings, Ability types) you want these things to have. Standard Magic format? Not much of a problem there.

Vise might be a good person to go to for balancing. He seems to have a pretty good eye for crazy cards in MTG.

This should prevent a player with a lucky couple of draws from taking over the entire map on the first two or three turns.

Neo-Blindy had this to say about the Spice Girls:
DESIGN CHANGE:
Used to be... Players were to Move their entire army in a single turn before some one else got to play. I'm going to change that to an action bar format as seen in Final Fantasy Tactics. This should prevent a player with a lucky couple of draws from taking over the entire map on the first two or three turns.
Still need to know if you want me working on any of this stuff, and if so, what you would like me to do.
For starters, I'm going to use FF1 sprites for all the creatures and wizards on the map, but I could use some card art for when they are still in your hand.
I think i'll come up with 20 or so cards tonight to be used as examples, if you guys want to start making up cards based on them it would be helpful.
Maps are going to be and simple and flat until I get .bsp's working like I want them to- then I'll be creating 3-d maps.
Thats like a fusion of the two things Im best at!!
