I'm sorry, Lyinar, but nothing you can say will ever unseat my deeply-rooted hatred of Telemarketers.

Not after that 'broom-mop' telemarketer called me when I wanted to sleep in.

I thought she did customer support at a phone company.

The difference is that he's not bitching, he's giving us material to laugh at.

Sure thing.

I don't complain about rude customers I hang up on them.

It's the morons that can't tie their shoes without help that I complain about

And get smart with. I have to agree with Sage on that one. You do get rude with them, from the descriptions you've given of your conversations.

Oh, I get smart with 'em on occasion. I agreed with Sage there too

But sometimes, stupid just astounds me.

"Okay, let's get your account set up. What is your first name?"

"Shawanda." (NOTE : I do not remember the first name, only that it sounded typical for an african-american female).

"Okay, and your last?"

"Uh... let me go ask my mother." (Another note : This person I was speaking to sounded over 18 years old and had her own credit card.)

You can not honestly look at that and tell me that there is any excuse for stupidity of that level, aside from mental retardation. And from the rest of the conversation, I don't think the person in question had mental issues. Just mind-numbingly stupid.

Yes, Nae is a customer service rep at a telephone company. She is NOT a telemarketer.

I used to do telemarketing for a long distance provider, until I learned that my job was hurting innocent people.

Now my job is to handle customer questions, input changes to our customer's service in the computer, basically ordering Sprint to move customers, or add features to their phone lines. I handle some billing questions, take payments from customers in the lobby, add new customers to our database, and troubleshoot some repair issues.

I am basically a Jane of all trades.. I wear many hats at work.

Yep, astounds me too, Khy.

But it's bad mojo to get rude with them simply for being not as intelligent as the rest of the world.

[Edit]
Yep, Kin. I'm inbound. I get basically the same type of thing Khy does, except he works for an ISP, and I work for a call center answering a myriad number of idiotic lines.

The company I worked for was called NOS.

They wouldn't even tell the people that worked for them what they were actually selling. We were calling businesses, my job was to get the Decision Maker on the line, so one of our floor managers could pound them into accepting our long distance plan.

We were selling a "Per Call Unit" rate. Not "per minute". Your guess is as good as mine what a "Call Unit" actually breaks down to. You get so many units per the first 5 minutes, then the next 10 minutes are so many more units, then the next 10 are a different number.

When asked what it breaks down to, they wouldn't tell us.

I watched them frisk people at work. They had a small army of Security officers there. When we went to work we had to walk the gauntlet through them. If our purse or jacket didn't meet their standards of size, they would take it away. They didn't want us to be able to sneak any numbers in or out of the building.

Read this about them... then decide for yourself.

Yeah.. I got called on the carpet for "being too nice". Rather than "straightening my act up" and waiting the two days grace they gave me, I went to lunch and didn't go back. I didn't want to get frisked like other people they fired.

14.95 an hour plus commission is not worth it.

*shakes her head*

It's companies like that that make outbound telemarketing so hated.

I think if people had more experience with the less pushy and nicer companies, they wouldn't consider them lower than dog shit.

Yay!

As a telemarketer, I would have been required to lose all respect for you.

But there has been repentance, there has been a change in your ways, and you are once more acceptable to society as the bright and wunnerful person you are! DOWN WITH TELEMARKETING!
