I need help with using my PS2-USB thing. Whenever it's in, the game won't load, and when I plug in while the game's going it won't work at all. I set the gamepad to default setting in the configuration menu that I got to from start, but after many many restarts it still won't work.

When I go to the control panel, it's there - Windows reconizes it. Whenever I try to run FFXI, though, it won't open.

Have you tried it with other things? Emulators for example?
Is the problem within the device itself, the device connecting to your computer, or the device with ffxi?

So when you plug it in, with controller as well, does device manager detect it and show no problems?

Did you go to config and test it out? You said you set it on default, but did you also try it out and see if everything is working fine? Both analog sticks, joypad, buttons, etc.?

This is the first thingamajig I've tried to use... the device manager sees it, and I can test it there fine, but when I try to open up the FFXI configuration menu it doesn't "see" the buttons I'm pushing. Then, if it's plugged in, it won't even start the game up at all :||||

Another weird thing is that I can't open up the FFXI gamepad configuration window while the gamepad's in.

Lazzay:

I was just talking to a friend who has a controller adapter that only works withOUT the drivers installed. Odd as it sounds, try that real quick.

Also, who makes your adapter and such?

What's your operating system? WinXP has most of these game controller drivers installed. If you're on WinXP, try uninstalling whatever came with the device.

Now when you mean test it do you mean Control Panel -> Game Controllers -> Properties? If you haven't tried it, try it and see if all the buttons/analog sticks work. That should mean the PS2 controller/USB is working fine, and its just not working with FFXI.

You did press the analog button on the controller, right?
