Hello!

My name is Kaizoe Stoutheart. I just picked up FFXI and I plan on installing it tonight. I am a guildmate of Falaanla. Falalalalala~ said I should post here and that you guys are cool .

Sounds like everyone says it's much easier with a controller. I don't have a PS2, so that usb adapter wont help. I was looking at a Logitech Dual Action Game Pad, but the analog pads feel weird (kinda sticky). Anyone have one and could talk about how they perform over the longterm? or have another gamepad to recommend?

Additionally...it feels weird just coming out and asking, but anyone have an extra worldpass?
Thanks. Hope to see you guys soon!

Delphi. That's right. The oracle. Ask me anything. Anything about your underwear.

After using the keyboard for a little bit more then a day or two, I found it highly intuitive, and I'm sure you will too.

Welcome.

!!!

Hey, I hope to get 20 tomorrow. I'll buy ya a world pass soon as I do, but for now I'm farting around in Valkurm dunes.

I'll give ya the info when i grab it.

And Delphi: Sure, you may get used to it, but everyone I've talked to that has switched from KB after a week to gamepad loves the gamepad.

I gave him one of my passes so he should be good for now.

Personally, I'm not just used to the keyboard. I love it! There is a metaphysical bond between me, the keys, and FFXI. It's not so much me playing FFXI, as it is FFXI playing me!

Disreguarding the deep spritual bond between man and machine, I don't even like using gamepads with console systems, hence why I rarely play console systems =p, so I MIGHT be a little biased.

Backstab is such a negative word. I prefer the term, "invasive back massage."

/wave Hello and welcome. =) Not sure if you'd remember me, but I used to play Adrecia on Fennin Ro. Yay for EQ~

Anyway. If you have any questions after you get on Ragnarok, feel free to send me a tell. I'm Shedari.

If you can afford it (and you are sure you're going to stick with this game), see if you can find a cheap PS2 controller + USB adapter. I can't imagine how anyone could play this game on a non PS2 gamepad X_x

Hey, are usb adaptors for PS2 controllers even sold in the US? My quick google search just returns places in UK/Asia/Europe.

Saitek P880

Upsides:

  • Cheap ($20)
  • Just as many buttons as a PS2 controller, but with a shift button, letting you double the functions you can do with it
  • Ability to easily map every imaginable keyboard and mouse function onto any button on the gamepad. IE. you can seamlessly use it as a mouse and keyboard in every application

I typed this line with my gamepad

  • It has an awesome, awesome bright blue light on it.
  • PRECISE DIGITAL PAD. Christ I hate gamepads that have a "fuzzy" digital pad. I fucking hate playing an emulator and constantly ducking when I really meant to crawl foreward.
  • Rubberized handles. The rubber wraps around the handle and continues onto the back of the analog sticks where your middle fingers commonly rest. Very comfy.
  • Very precise analog sticks. I'm torn as to which I prefer: those on the X-Box or those on the Saitek P880. But they're both sexy.

My only qualm is that the shift button doesn't work in everything, and it has only two shoulder buttons though it clearly has room for more.

  • All times are US/Eastern
