OK, this is how it is going to be on release day:

IF we get new servers on release

I will create a character. Provided the server name I land on is acceptable, I will work up and buy a world pass. I will invite Bajah, Led, Addy, Balinore, and Alzuun

The 6 of us will hunt, until the 5 I invited on can get a worldpass. Those 5 will then invite the 5 people under their name on the other thread.

Those that are waiting for an invite will wait in a channel on the IRC server (irc.evercrest.com) in channel FFXI. When someone has their world pass and is ready to invite you on, they will log out to the channel (can't alt tab), and message the world pass info to the people on the list. If those people aren't on, they will PM them the info on the boards.

IF YOU HAVEN'T POSTED IN THE THREAD -- Please post by wednesday IF you havent posted by wednesday, world passes will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

IF WE DONT GET NEW SERVERS

I'll find someone already playing on Pandemonium server, and get them to help me at least get the first group on via a world pass. We will then get the rest on like the original plan states. As we near release, I'll give more info.

I should be done that day with classes by 3 pm EST, so we should have everyone on the server by 6 or 7, at the latest (giving people time to get home and all).

-----------------

If I cant find an yone that plays on Pandemonium to help us out, we'll just go with the initial plan. It may be best for it to let the game put us on the lowest pop server regardless of server name -- we don't want world passes to cost too much or anything. I really favor the first option...I mean the server name isn't really a big deal in the end. The server population is what is the big deal

IF for some reason someone on the firstl ist isn't on, I'll pick someone else to replace them and take care of their 5 people

CHANGE TO THE PLANS.

On release day, everyone create a character. Hopefully a good amount of us land on a low pop server. If you dont, you get world passed on.

I like this option We take the name we get.

I can dig it.

I dunno if I'll be playing on the first day though, like I mentioned elsewhere I plan on waiting till the PS2 release, although I might just succumb to temptation...

Anyway, once we're nice & settled I should have no problem getting in with you guys, so it's good.

I have a PS2... Is there some special extra stuff you can get for playing it on your PS2?

The PC and PS2 versions are exactly the game, with the exception of the PC version having a small edge in the graphics department, both versions play on the same servers.

PS2 version is due sometime in march though.

March? I thought it came out some time in jan. Oh well looks like I might have to go out and buy it on PC.

While I am getting a free PS2 Hdd I don't want to wait till Jan or March and let everyone else out lvl me.

Thats why I was confused about the PS2 version over the PC version... If you have a PC that can run it, why bother with the PS2 version... I didn't wanna miss out on something for being on PC.

But since there is no difference, no point in dealing with the PS2 setup, PC can run it just fine. Got it pretty much explained to me, so I'm all good. Hopefully have this by Wednesday if I'm lucky. Which is probably good, wont get caught in the release day crunch.

28th was Shipdate, not release date.

Hmmm...I suspect the choice between PS2 and PC has more to do with the user's setup. My computer barely eeks by for FFXI Windows...and the cost of upgrading it is a lot more than I'd want to spend for a game. And since I have a PS2....

But I'm also impatient, so I'll play low-res FFXI on my PC until the PS2 version comes out.

Question... Current Monica and I will have to share one account, only one PC that can run it... With a router, obviously, to share the net connection, could she in march, get a PS2 copy and use that to play with? While I still use the PC?

Yes, there's nothing stopping you from doing that as long as the PS2 has it's own IP address as well.

-Edit- Unless you mean both of you accessing the same account at the same time with the PS2 and Computer which the game won't allow you to do.

Yes, you'd just have to make a second account with the PS2 CD key.

Regarding the router thing...are you folks sure of that? According to the FFXI official site, I'll need to open a number of ports on my router:

*Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group:
-TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 or 50000 - 65535
-UDP 50000 - 65535

*If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) specifies a DNS server, you may need to configure your settings to allow packets to pass through UDP Port 53 as well.

But on my router's admin screen, I'm supposed to specify an IP address to forward that traffic *to*. How does that work when you have two people playing at the same time? With Diablo 2 it was easy, since the ports were only needed for *hosting* a game...not just playing.

I also have two people wanting to play via router.... Any technical advice is greatly appreciated.

I doubt there'll be any issues. Me and a friend had no problem both playing DAOC with one router, or EQ, or planetside -- I just set up port triggering on my router. Should try just setting up port triggering though, it should work fine.

As for the two people thing...did you talk Aular into playing?

I hope I dont have issues with FFXI here at school, but I dont think I will. I just have problems actually sending out files via DCC on IRC

Isn't it a bit of a pain to play it on the PS2 in terms of communication etc. etc.?

Aular is a Final Fantasy fanatic, much like I am. I believe he still has the libretto from FFVI memorized....

And my FFXI mania has been infecting him, slowly but surely. He'll be joining us with a week or two, I suspect.

The PS2 has two USB ports on the front...it's not too difficult to plug in a keyboard and mouse if you want....

Should I start to plant suggestions to him also?
