Actually, I've been posting on EC since back in the fall of 2001. I don't know why it says otherwise. And the reason that I don't seem to know what is going on is because last summer I took a 5 month break (if you could call it that, no access to a computer) and another break for about a month in mid december to mid january.

And I have asburgers.

I promised not to respond, vertue. I wanted to give everyone a free and clear chance to say what they want without fear of reprisal from me.

And guys, this thread is for *everyone* to speak up. Not just those "in the know" or "been around long enough". Vertue has as much right to say something as the rest of you. So please stop.

I find these things very funny, even if I am the butt (or ass?) of the joke.

No offense, Lyinar, but you're really not supposed to be posting, and you're starting to post your opinion as well. Just trying to let you know because I am under the impression that you aren't supposed to.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

I was never told not to post, Suddar. I myself said that I wouldn't respond to opinions given. And I'm sorry if it's sounding a little like opinion. I just want to keep this open for everyone, not just a select few, and to keep it civil.

*shrugs* I voted indifferently. I really don't care either way and I find it to be too much effort to dislike someone on the board (due to previous experiences.) Plus I'm not around enough to feel like I have a valid (Up to date) opinion on the topic.

However I'm simply irritated by Deth's postings. As a topic revolving around opinions of Lyinar, I don't see why these opinions have to be combated in any way. This is not any sort of an attack, so please don't take it as such. I'm just expressing my failure to see how a thread of this sort benefits from a single person attempting to defend Lyinar against opinions she requested.

Then again, I also think this could have been handled on a far more personal level and whatnot. But whatever, that's how I would have done things.

I'm not going to forbid Deth from countering points made if that's what he wants to do. If he feels it, he should post it, so long as he keeps it civil. He's done that so far, and so has most everyone else. I wanted this to be a situation where all could speak, not just positive, not just negative, but everyone. The poll was, after all, for positive, negative or neutral opinions. It's hardly fair to forbid one and not the others.

But what I'm failing to see is the value in it. It only stirs potential for flames and so far has begun to cause situations which are reminiscent of flame wars (pleading for thread locks.)

Yes, it's great that he defends you and expresses his 'positive opinion.' I'd just see this more positively and stable if an opinion was just expressed and left at that... what's the value of discussion on this thread? It just makes it more difficult to sort through the actual thoughts and feelings of those who participate. Perhaps I misunderstand what this thread is really for. I've been under the impression it's too share how we feel about you, Lyinar, and your standing with the board members.

Lemmy.

I am under the impressions that this thread is not just to list your opinions, but also to discuss them. From what I can tell, that is exactly what Deth is doing.

I don't mean to sound rude, but is this because he's Deth? Because he's Lyinar's boyfriend? If it were someone else, me for example, would you say that I shouldn't post those things?

Are you arguing against the content of his posts, or the name attached to them? Please think about what you are actually saying.

I don't particularly see how any opinion voiced in this thread about its subject matter, in a POSITIVE manner, can not be similar to what Deth posts.

Unless it contains no instances of the past.

But, many of the negative opinions voiced in this thread do contain examples of instances in the past. So why can't a positive one contain the same?

Maybe I am just reading too much into your post. Maybe I am just thinking about your post from a different angle.

It just seems to me as if you're saying, "Deth should not bring up counter-points to opinions because it might start a flamewar." Well, why can't Deth do so? Because nobody else is? What good are bringing up opinions to begin with if they cannot be challenged, debated, countered, or discussed?

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

It's to burn hot, burn clean and burn out, as Deth put it before. It's everyone to get feelings out on the issues, discuss them civilly (it doesn't have to be a good opinon, I only ask for civility), and above all, Put Them In the Past. Nobody ever really got to make a "case", on either side, because anytime we've tried in the past it turns into a flame war. It's actually succeeding this time. We're all talking, and that's a Good Thing.

And I ask that those that are calling for thread locking (I won't name names, you know who you are) take a step back and actually try to *solve* the problem and maybe do what I'm doing in asking people to be nice before they try to sweep the problem away with a locking.

I can't speak about before my time, because (obviously) I wasn't there, but in my experience, Lyinar has a bit of an itchy trigger finger. She is willing to talk though, and I think her heart is usually in the right place.

As an example, I bring up my feeble attempts at RP in Parcelan's FFRP thread. I was a n00b and didn't know the rules, and Lyinar did blow up over that, but once I had explained to her that I WAS a n00b, she was exceedingly helpful. My apologies for the demise of that thread BTW Parcelan.

Of course it's not because it's -Deth-. -_- If it were anybody else having constant streams of defenses I'd say the same thing.

And to address the burn out/burn clean idea.. I somehow don't believe that'll work with this simple thread. Sure, it's great in theory, but the rate at which we at this board happen to hold grudges and bring up old topics/posts.. I don't believe such a thing is capable. That's part of the reason I disagree with the heavy defenses, as some may perceive them as not being so entirely civil, but perhaps hurtful. *shrugs*

I do not want to sit here and defend my points repetitively as to get off topic. As I said before, that was my opinion. I'd prefer you, Dense, not to assume my opinion has ulterior reasons behind what I professed. As it comes off that you are accusing me of getting irritated and a completely irrelevent issue that I understand and respect. I would like you to think about where this thread would be if Deth had not rapidly addressed all negative points on this issue... and what would have happened with it? Just a hypothetical idea, yes, but it's one that I believe would have yielded a very different outcome of this thread.

So blah blah blah.

I just want to make a comment on the whole Malbi thing. He's HARMLESS. Yes, I admit, he comes off a little strong at times, but in general he's a good guy. Now I don't know what he was thinking or whatever when he made such comments to you but I seriously doubt he meant anything but humor in them. He asks me all the time how my day has gone and such. He's friendly. If you don't want to talk to him, and if he doesn't seem to stop, put him on IGNORE. It's a simple little thing to do really.

There's a fine line between leading someone on and letting them know when to stop.

In that case, I'll say that, with no offense intended, you're really speaking out of ignorance, Jaja.

Malbi's friendly now, he's matured quite a bit, but he used to be much worse...much worse. There were times when we heard complaints every day about him making some very inappropriate comments towards people that he already knew didn't like him.

As I recall, after giving him the heads-up, Malbi still told Lash something along the lines of: "What would you do if I showed up at your doorstep wearing nothing but a kilt?" and also "I can't believe a girl like you doesn't cyber."

In the past, we acted out perhaps a little rashly against him. I, for one, considered Lash a good friend of mine, and I didn't want to let this continue. It bothered me and several others, so I acted.

Your insinuation that she was leading him on, however, is ignorant, biased, and pretty damn low.

That's also, in a similar vein, why I felt so horrible when an opinion conveyed in PM about Fae's game got back to Fae. There is, I've always felt, something of a brotherhood of GM's. I don't go around judging how Parce runs his game, he doesn't come into #High*Seas and tell me how to run my game. Same goes for Fae. Same goes for Za. Same goes for my friend Ric who runs a GURPS game in IRC, and my friend Karl who runs a D&D game in IRC. I may have my personal opinion with a game, but if I'm not playing in it, I don't harass that GM or attack them. That's a no-no.

Now...There are some elements to Fae's game that I disagree with. I wouldn't do it his way in my game. In the exact same sense, that by definition means that Fae wouldn't do things my way. That doesn't mean Fae's wrong and I'm right, or that I'm wrong and Fae's right. Lyinar and I had had a long discussion about Fae's way of doing things, and the point we both agreed on was that Fae's way wouldn't work in my HS game. There were some things about Fae's game that I like, that I find admirable. There are things in Fae's game, from what I've seen on the sites he's shown me and from what I gathered in the (I'll admit, I got tired of seeing constant posts about Fae's game) board posts. Lyinar, I gather, spoke to someone in PM and laid out the facts, and probably didn't put it as gently as I'm putting it here, and it got back to Fae. A PRIVATE MESSAGE, a PRIVATE COMMUNICATION got leaked by the person Lyinar was talking to, and it hurt Fae and caused a shitstorm. Lyinar and I, no matter our opinion on the matter, never intended to go after Fae. We never intended to start a "Crusade" or attack him. Fae was our friend, and to me there was the added Fraternity of GM's thing.

But no one ever saw that we liked some aspects of the game. They just saw something taken out of context. They saw Lyinar listing the faults of Fae's game on behalf of her and myself. And before anyone ever approached us, it got nasty. Suddenly it was like there was a competition for who the better GM was. God that's irritating.

Eh.. since this is relevant to what is going on. I had, until just a couple of days ago forgotten entirely about that. It wasn't important enough for me to care about. In reference to what Lyinar said and did concerning that issue though. If you had read the PM I sent you, you'd see it had nothing at all to do with what type of game I run. In fact, it didn't have anything to do with my game at all. My rules, or my way of running things weren't even a part of the issue. It was an attack on my person and on my morals, and respocibilities as a memeber of EC. The only thing it had to do with my game, is that is what started the conversation. Otherwise my game wasn't even mentioned in the entire discussion.

I still have all the relevant info on that discussion backlogged in PMs, as well as the original PM discussion. I wont put it here, but I am perfectly willing to resend it along. It was a personal attack against me, by a friend. It had nothing to do with my game at all, and had everything to do with me as a person.

If it had been attacking my game, I wouldn't gave even cared about it. My styles, and my world dont fit much of anything. They don't fit Za's world, they sure as hell dont fit a High Seas world, and they dont work for any kind of FFRP. It is a specific system, for a specific reason. So I could care less if someone likes or dislikes anything about them.

And for the record it wasn't leaked to me, I stumbled on it. In fact, the persons responcible, as well as a few other friends tried to hide it from me completely, because it was a personal, and hurtful attack, and it was common knoledge that Lyinar was a friend. It was a pretty painful act of backstabbing. Luckily, I tend to get over things fast or just block em out completely.

I have no desire to air any of that publically again, although It would make sense to do so. Since it is all relevant, but some things are better left buried. I don't hate her, and a never have, but that wont chance my opinion on the stance I took on this issue. Which is why I'm not contesting it anymore, I already said what I needed to say.
