My mouse keeps going to busy with nothing I can see loading...it just goes to busy whenever I let it sit there for a few seconds...it's doing it now. When I move it, it goes back to normal. The harddrive active light isnt lighting so I doubt anything is loading...just...what the hell is going on?

Reminds me of when my floppy drive kept trying to access itself periodicly. I just deleted something that looked like a foreign program in my task manager and that stopped it. Maybe you should do the same.

Nothing of mine looks too foreign...some of it seems weird, but I'm pretty sure it all has a use.

Mine is a ball. Its all.. QUIET. 'N stuff. I like it. It obeys me, unlike the last one, which was a BAD MOUSY AND DESERVED TO DIE! So I killed it. ^_^

Yeah, ball mice are the best. Opticals just feel weird.

My optical roxxored until one day it decided that randomly it would dim the laser to like 1/100'th it's normal brightness...

I couldn't use the mouse till I rebooted, but for an added bonus it locked all other forms of input... the game would run fine, I could watch as that Recon rammed a goodyear down my throat... but had no way to stop

It took 2 days for me to throw the damned thing in the closest and get a trusty ball-mouse

Now besides the occasional cleaning (Go max Payne mousepad! woo!) it works like a charm

In closing

Ball > Optical

the first optical mouse I got was some generic brand. It had this habbit of just moving the pointer everywhere and clicking on things at random uncontrollably. Is caused me to sit down and camp out of EQ once, lol. I took it back, got a logitech, and it never happened again. I LOVE my optical mouse. less resistence, doesn't need cleaning, doesn't get stuck cause the ball gains TOO much traction. mmm...good mousey!
I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

First optical mouse I ever used was one of the SUN optical mice from SUN3 and SUN4 workstations back in 1991.

Annoying as hell. You HAD to keep them on the little metalic mousepads, plus they seemed to go everywhere EXCEPT where you wanted em to go.

Not really been tempted to use one since, even though I'm sure they've improved since then.

Improved?! THAT'S an understatement

Today's optical mouses work on any surface. They're precise, and when you're doing slow, precise movements like drawing, the ball can't get stuck and force you to jerk. it's awesome. Just make sure you get a brand you can trust.

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer.

Not only is it optical, but it's twice as accurate as the most accurate possible ball mouse, and has FIVE count 'em FIVE buttons (not including the mousewheel).

Furthermore, I've had it for nearly a year now and I've never, ever had a problem with it - and that's saying a lot (I have a bad habit of taking out frustration on my user interface).

Couldn't get me to touch a ball mouse for my life

Oh, Vorago - that dimming the laser thing, that's supposed to happen. It dims while idle to conserve power in case you're using a laptop or whatnot. If you were having problems, the laser dimming wasn't the source of them.

I use a ball mouse. My brother bought an optic mouse once--I don't remember brandname or anything, but--it last about 6 months before he had to clean the laser eye every ten minutes in order for the thing to work.

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer has a recessed, angled laser eye that is impossible to scratch or get dirty though casual use

hehe, my mouse is uber

i had the ms optical mouse at work not long ago. it was lousy. however, i have the new logitec cordless optical and it is swweeeeeeet. its slightly heavy, which is great for tribes cause it provides the perfect amount of resistance to keep my wrist from flying all over the place not to mention, i never have to worry about cat hair on the mouse ball ever again =)

I have a logitech mouse that has been around at least most of the time I had this comp, if not the entire time (and my comp is old). the name "logitech" and the logo is starting to wear off, and I don't have the software anymore that allows me to press both buttens at once and it would count as a doubble click (i had the less expensive vershion) , but it still works perfectly and I haven't had any problems with it, other then takeing little tiny bits of lint off the ball bearings every few years.

Microsoft?? Who the hell would support micrisoft if they didn't hafe to??

damn, my spelling sucks this time in the morning/night.
