I'm watching a movie right now, called "Deadly Swarm." It is, of course, about killer mosquitoes in Mexico. And it's one of the many movies on the Sci-Fi channel as of late that is complete crap.
Other such examples include: "Boa vs. Python" in which they create a killer boa constrictor to fight a killer python from a previous movie. "The Snakehead Terror" in which some prehistoric bullshit attacks stupid people. "Arachnid," which deals with Giant Spiders.
Now I understand well that giant insects, reptiles and whatnot are a classic part of the scifi genre, but they aren't the only things! Something Awful once had a rant about this and said something to the effect that a good writer with half the budget of most Sci-Fi movies could create something infinitely better.
And I'm forced to agree.
For too long has Sci-Fi been a few good shows in a sea of steaming crappy movies. I sometimes wonder what happened to them that they decided to go this way.
Bleah. Thoughts?

JooJooFlop had this to say about John Romero:
To me it used to be "the channel that carries MST3K" but then they stopped showing it. Now I never watch that channel.
Pretty much, yeah
The Stargate series are, at the moment, the anchor, but they've got a bunch of stuff in the works, like the new Battlestar Galactica series, etc. They just need to lure writers away from their parent company (NBC) to start writing good stuff.

I wish they would bring back some of the older shows like Space:Above and Beyond. Now that was a cool show!
Can't remember what its called though

For a single shot movie.

Drysart had this to say about Matthew Broderick:
For a single shot movie.
A 4 hour long one at least
When it comes to Farscape, I will take whatever I can get. No matter what, it beats the mind bogglingly evil cliffhanger the series was almost left at.
It's not something people hear about.

From the book of Bajah, chapter 3, verse 16:
Bubba HoTep?
He didn't write/direct that.
Plus what happened to Saterday Morning Anime?
I can see why they rotate some of the shows they have in and out of playing, they get stall if you leave them on all the time.

There was much rejoicing when JooJooFlop said this:

The man with the screaming brain has BC in it, but I know what one you guys are talking about. I just can't recall it's name.
Edit: Terminal Invasion, methinks. Tegadil fucked around with this message on 07-24-2004 at 07:16 PM.

Only as a mini-series, which makes me sad. I want the series back

Anyways, I was flipping through channels the other day and they had a Kolchak marathon on. Very very cool.

THE CRAB PEOPLE!
I agree I only watch that channel for stargate, I hate all those bad movies they do. There is little sci-fi about it its just "oh its a giant rat killing everyone but the army made it as a weapon" or somecrap.

Ja'Deth Issar Ka'bael had this to say about Robocop:
A few years back, Sci-Fi did anime blocks on Saturday morning. Since Cartoon Network started signing near-exclusive deals with the American distributors, though, SciFi's been edged out. Personally I'd like to see less in the way of series (which CN covers well enough) and more of the one-shot movies. Anime and American animation (like Wizards)
They havn't edged them out, Sci-Fi simply does not show them. Or show them often enough. Once in a Blue moon, at like 1 am Sci-Fi will show something like Armitage III.
quote:
Elvish Crack Piper got bored and wrote this:
Sci-Fi should restart Firefly
It can't, since a major movie is being released.
The rights are tied up.
Then one or two older retired broadcast channel's shows like Sliders
Primetime it is movies, or Stargate, most of the time they repeat them, then late night is crappy shows like John Edwards or one or two fillers shows from daytime like Star Trek, then maybe an older movie, like, looking at the listing, Weds and Thurs they are showing Godzilla movies at 3 am.

I miss the good ol' days of MST3k, and anyone remember Earth 2 (On the strange planet with the native creatures that moved underground? Very cool series.), and then something else with classic scifi action without being cheesy, I think it was Earth: Above and Beyond. basically a platoon of marines in the resistance of alien invasion and whatnot.

Demos had this to say about Reading Rainbow:
They seem like they're coming out with a few new series like was stated, with Battlestar Galactica, Earthsea, and something else I can't remember. I saw previews for it...something like The Hidden? Something with the parents keeping a secret about the kid's parentage involving hideous mutations and whatnot.I miss the good ol' days of MST3k, and anyone remember Earth 2 (On the strange planet with the native creatures that moved underground? Earth: Above and Beyond also had Coolio in space.

Verily, Ja'Deth Issar Ka'bael doth proclaim:
That John Edwards guy should be kneecapped and fed feet first into a chipper shredder. I hate him with a passion.
but without john edwards they'd have to pay for real sci-fi shows like Forever Knight.
If you want scifi, watch TNNSpike TV or Cartoon Network.

I watch Spike for MacGyver and ST:TNG repeats. I have this thing for Star Trek series that don't suck the ass.

SciFi is great for the fact that they play the cheesy or underrated movies that no other station will take. For Example: I have yet to see any evil dead movie on any channel other then scifi, and all hail to the king baby.
I saw Army of Darkness on (I think it was) AMC just a few weeks ago!
