Can someone decifer this for me, cause I don't think I am reading it right, or comprehending it right.

quote:

Fixed a bug with certain Powers that debuff resistance's:
Before this change, a power which affected resistance would apply this resistance to itself. This resulted in compounding the intended effect, which made the power work incorrectly overall.

Imagine one de-buffed a villain's resistance to Fire Damage powers, thereby making them more susceptible to powers of that nature. On the next combat tick, the villain's resistance is calculated again, but this time he's susceptible to Fire Damage powers-- including the one which made him susceptible in the first place. So, he would be made even MORE susceptible. On the next combat tick, it would happen again, etc. The compounded resistance makes the initial debuff much more powerful than intended. In fact, a very small stack of this debuff ends up being completely unresistable. Freezing Rain and Enervating Field are the two powers which are affected by this change. In typical circumstances, you should see little difference in their effects. When stacking these powers, though, you will see the change. If you've been using a small stack of these powers to trivially take out an archvillain or monster, you will find that you will need to stack more of them. In short, instead of the stack multiplying and compounding over time, its strength becomes the sum of the stack; as was intended by the original design. Hero resistance buffs have always been unresistable; they will not be affected by this change at all.

So what does that mean exactly? Somehow it effects me, I'm just not sure how. Enervating Field lowers an emeies resistance to ALL types of damage, meaning they take more damage than normal when they are hit. So how does this effect me again?

I haven't NOTICED anything different, but thats not to say something isn't different. Things dont usually last long against any groups I am in, but is it basically saying that the resistances kept duplicating themselves, so they would take more and more damage from each consecutive attack? Cause if thats the case, it never did that. If you hit them for 18 before enervating field, and hit them for 24 AFTER enervating field, you always only hit for 24 anytime you use that power to attack until Enervating field is off. Enemies never took more and more damage before, so I don't understand what they mean by it doubled up the resistance debuff on every combat tick. Or the part about it making it more resistant to the original attack that CAUSED the debuffing, because Enervating field debuffs resistance to everything, including the Radiation line, but Enervating field does no damage on its own. So how can it be increasing the effectiveness of the power that started it. Whether it lands a HIT or not is dependant on Defense, not reistance so that doesn't apply either...

I am confused.

It's more geared towards the fire rain and ice storm powers.. the kind that do do damage. Enervating field was just included as an example that was affected by the change.

Well that makes sense, cause if it did duplicate the damage there, I could see an issue. But the fact that Enervating field does no damage on its own was confusing me. Of course it is still saying the lowered resistance was duplicated every tick, so since Eneverating field lowers resistance to EVERYTHING it is still basically saying hits did more damage over time while it was on, which isn't true. Attacks always did the same amount of damage througout the entire fight. So again I was confused...

They need better clarification!

Okay, you had 2 rad people. First one sticks enervating field on the mob, second one sticks it on too. First one is 30% less resists, second is 30% as well + 10% for the first being on. First rad turns it off, turns it back on. It's now 40% + 10% from second having it up. Second turns it off, turns it back on, it's now 50% + 10% from first. Repeat ad naseum.

This was much easier to do with the debuffing rain spells. Which would debuff and let the rain hit harder every tick. Going from 1 damage very quickly to up to 100+ damage very quickly.

You can see why it was fixed.

So this isn't against people that just throw up the field and leave it on like yours supposed this.. This was people basically being toggle whores to exploit turning it on and off before the next tick?

Yeah, basically. But then again, people will use whatever you give them to work with. Should have never been that way, they had to fix it.

It's just like what I do in your DnD games, Fae. I use what I have available in whatever means I see fit.

Uh, from what I read in the message, it kept calculating the resistance to whatever the mobs current resistance was every tick.

Like, say you lowered resistance by 30%

You put it on and now the mobs resistance is 70% [ 1 - (1 * 0.3) ]
The next tick, it would calculate again to 49% [ 0.7 - (0.7 * 0.3) ]
next tick, again to 34.3% [ 0.49 - (0.49 * 0.3) ]

Enervating Field's resist debuff didn't tick. It was either on or off. Hence why you needed two people.

God yes. When I remade Lanithare as a grav/rad controller, I made the RIGHT decision. Rad infection (And enervating field, unfortunatly at 16, because I took accel at 10 and need 12 and 14 for travel) are the rox. I get close, hit the center member of a group with infection, and can almost instantly switch to crushing field.. which has acc enhs AND the infection going for it..

So much . Even when all the mobs fling their ranged at me, 90% of it misses.

Think I was a little off on that, Batty... Wasn't a matter of de-activating and re-activating, was more a problem with large numbers of Rad defenders. First one made it 30% debuffed, next one made it so it got 40% debuffed (30% + 30% * 30%) by each (So 80% total), the third one made it so it got 54% debuffed (30% + 30% * 80% (effect from the other two)) for a total of 162%, and so on. Full group of Rad defenders (or anyone else with a resistance debuff) would make a mob take 79 times the original damage. Made big bosses like Hamidon get one-shotted. (Freezing rain was a worse bug, it actually was stacking with itself on each tic, multiplying its own damage constantly)

A small side effect of this is that level-based resistances don't affect EF anymore, either. The bad part is that it's not as monstrously effective against lower level creatures (Makes it less uber for powerleveling)... The good part is it's more effective on higher level ones, now.

Ah well, either way it was a stacking issue.

I can walk into a group of yellows with red lieutenants and AE them to death, hit two Catch a Breath inspirations and be ready for the next group.

The Fire/Devices Blaster plan nem made for me is turning out excellent, though I find myself running out of end between fights now. I'm getting Stamina in two levels though.

Level 1-18, and I started playing like a week ago.

Targetting drone and high damage AEs help with that, but it'll become signifigantly harder once you pass 20.

Glad you're enjoying yourself, though. Some of the things that villans say are hilarious.

You are going to LOVE Proton Volley. It's a weak ass pansie sniper attack. (Go go Defender Damage Tables!) But it doesn't matter it is such cheesy camp goodness its great! Oh and Range... My GOD the Range on that thing, and unlike regular sniper attacks if you get it off, if the still manage to run out of range, it still chases em down and hits em. Still, it's the cheesy goodness that makes it rock. Love Proton Volley.

Oh, and I still don't notice a difference in how Enevating field works, so guess it wasn't something I was abusing/exploting before so doesn't affect me. I have however noticed I seem to do less damage period than I used to. Whether Enervating Field is up or not, my attacks just seem... weaker. I know for a fact my Nutrino Bolt droped from doing 15 damage a pop to doing 10...
