Ukko's plan is to play an Empathy/Radiation Defender who is primarily Healing and Group buff based. He told me he will be aiming to use this character solely for group play, not solo work, so i worked up the following in the Char Gen (v1.53)

(THank you Abbi for the hard work on helping me with my healer )
(but why controller?)
quote:
nem-x wrote, obviously thinking too hard:
Be a controller for empathy healing.
Controllers get the healing powers much slower than a Defender, so IMHO isn't geared toward Healing/Group buffing as much as a defender is. Emplathy Controllers are more 'secondary' healers (like Druids in EQ, when compared against Clerics)..
..besides, he'd made the character as a Defender initally anyway and is almost level 10.. so it'd be a waste to have him remake and replay the character.
I did this one And I'm STICKING to It!!! *Super glue him self*
Look, I'm not a fan on playing a healer ... but I'm simply good at it. Every online games i play Clerics, so what the hell, plus Grafic Lag is not much of a problem when healer, so thats good considering my comp.
I been anjoying the powers also, and the grouping, so it's tunring out to be good stuff.
But i see that there's more and more healers out there, or second healers that will start healing out the blue, end up healing same person and lousing pressus time ...
Is there a way to make macros?
You may think it's useful, but then you encounter the hard truth that you very rarely use it.
It gets more useful against Ink Men, but not really.
Overall, Fortitude (which i think pops up at the same time. can't remember) is better and you need to get the two aura's ASAP. They fucking rock.
Really, the best bet is to focus on primary and secondary powers. Other than transportation and fitness, i haven't seen the pools to be all too useful.
GET FITNESS. I don't think i saw it on the template. Dr. Gee fucked around with this message on 06-23-2004 at 12:03 AM.
THats all nice and sweet, but I need to know more, when you tell me a power, discribe the effects, I'm still a CoH greeny here =P
And I'm not investhing to much of my power into damage , i just wana keep it group helping toon.
also, i have no idea in what pool the stuff ya talking bout is in =P
Again, You need to talk to me like i was the first idiot fromt he planet morron!

Hay guys. Ukko was asking for my input on a Defender character he is playing, and I came up with the following char idea for him. Can you folks take a quick look and comment. Feel free top suggest any changes you think might work better for him.Ukko's plan is to play an Empathy/Radiation Defender who is primarily Healing and Group buff based. He told me he will be aiming to use this character solely for group play, not solo work, so i worked up the following in the Char Gen (v1.53)
Archetype: Defender
Primary Powers - Buff/Debuff : Empathy
Secondary Powers - Ranged : Radiation BlastSlot[01] Level 1 (Starting Primary) : Healing Aura /Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,EndRdx
PBAoE Heal, you will use this when the whole group is taking damage.
Slot[02] Level 1 (Starting Secondary) : Neutrino Bolt /Dmg,Acc
Brawl /Dmg, Acc
Sprint /Sprint
Rest /RchgSlot[03] Level 2 : Heal Other /Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,EndRdx
Targeted player heal, you will use this one a lot.
Slot[04] Level 4 : Absorb Pain /Heal,Rng,Rng,Heal,Heal,EndRdx
Targeted player heal, you take damage and cant heal but it costs no endurance, in a good group you will use this when someone is really hurt and not die, in a bad group you are dead on activation.
Slot[05] Level 6 : Recall Friend /Rchg,Rchg,IntTime,IntTime
Teleport group member to you, useful when someone get back from the hospital in a mission and you need to catch them up as well as for gathering the group.
Slot[06] Level 8 : Resurrect /Rchg,Rchg,IntTime,IntTime
Self-explanitory, use it after combat because it uses too much endurance to continue healing the group.
Slot[07] Level 10 : Clear Mind /Rng
Havn't actually tried it but I understand it is useful against thing that stun and hold, I would go with the get fortitude here insted, your tanks will love you.
Slot[08] Level 12 : Fortitude /DefBuf,HitBuf,EndRdx
Thanks to recent improvements you can keep this power on 2 people at once without enhancements, anybody who does or takes damage loves getting this used on them.
Slot[09] Level 14 : Teleport
Lovely power, fastest travel power in the game just dont miss and fall, I use it on my healer, some endurance reduction would not be lost on this power, it eats it up like nothing.
Slot[10] Level 16 : Maneuvers /DefBuf
Groups like this, from the leadership power pool a defense bonus for everyone and it works better with a defender than anyone else.
Slot[11] Level 18 : Assault /Rchg
Same as Manuvers but attack power, useful.
Slot[12] Level 20 : Recovery Aura /EndRec,EndRec,EndRec,EndRec,EndRdx,Rchg
This power will make everyone love you, gives AoE endurance regen for its duration.
Slot[13] Level 22 : Tactics /HitBuf
See assault or manuvers only its accuracy.
Slot[14] Level 24 : Vengeance /DefBuf,HitBuf,Heal
When you die your team gets a super boost, I'm not a fan of powers you have to die to use...
Slot[15] Level 26 : Regeneration Aura /Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,EndRdx,Rchg
Similar to recovery aura only gives you health.
Slot[16] Level 28 : Irradiate /DefDeb,Acc,Dmg
Radiation DoT, guess you have run out of other powers at this point but I would takes other peoples advice and got for the fitness power pool at this point and get some personal regen and recovery.
Slot[17] Level 30 : Proton Volley /DefDeb,Acc,Dmg
Slot[18] Level 32 : Adrenalin Boost /EndRec,EndRec,EndRec,Rchg,Rchg,Rchg
Slot[19] Level 35 : Neutron Bomb /DefDeb,Dmg,Acc
Slot[20] Level 38 : Atomic Blast /Dmg,DefDeb,AccI have no idea about these high level radiation powers because I have never seen them used, My highest is only level 15...

*bows*
Archetype: Defender
Primary Powers - Buff/Debuff : Empathy
Secondary Powers - Ranged : Radiation Blast
Slot[01] Level 1 (Starting Primary) : Healing Aura /Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal
Aoe heal, a lifesaver when enemies have aoe attacks or if you don't have one chacter taking all the damage.
Slot[02] Level 1 (Starting Secondary) : Neutrino Bolt /Acc
Slot[03] Level 2 : Heal Other /Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal
Basic single target big heal, good for a tanker.
Slot[04] Level 4 : Absorb Pain /Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal,Heal
Kinda iffy on this one, heal other is superior, but it'll do in a pinch.
Slot[05] Level 6 : Resurrect /Rchg
Res, enough said.
Slot[06] Level 8 : Swift /Run
Requirement for Stamina, small run speed boost. Kinda nice to have.
Slot[07] Level 10 : Recall Friend /Rchg
Friend teleport, savior of all the slow people with flight.
Slot[08] Level 12 : Fortitude /Rchg,DefBuf,HitBuf
Wonderful single target buff, good for tank and damage types.
Slot[09] Level 14 : Teleport /EndRdx
Teleport, the only way to travel.
Slot[10] Level 16 : Health /Heal
Small health regeneration. Not great, but another requirement for stamina.
Slot[11] Level 18 : Recovery Aura /Rchg,Rchg,Rchg
Stamina regen for the whole group... Absolutely wonderful ability.
Slot[12] Level 20 : Stamina /EndRec,EndRec,EndRec,EndRec,EndRec,EndRec
Stamina regen for yourself... This is a huge boost. Eliminates the need for end reducing enhancements in all your other abilities. If you don't have end, you can't heal, and are kinda useless.
Slot[13] Level 22 : Maneuvers /DefBuf,DefBuf,DefBuf,DefBuf,DefBuf,DefBuf
Very nice defensive boost for the whole group. Less getting hit = less need to heal.
Slot[14] Level 24 : Tactics /HitBuf,HitBuf,HitBuf,HitBuf,HitBuf,HitBuf
Accuracy boost for the whole group. Scrappers/blasters will love you, and even controllers get a large boost to their holds with this one on.
Slot[15] Level 26 : Assault /EndRdx
Damage boost. Pure blaster/scrapper love.
Slot[16] Level 28 : Irradiate /Acc
Small aoe debuff... Good for high def foes.
Slot[17] Level 30 : Proton Volley /Acc
Sniper attack... Huge range, good damage. May not use it much, by this level, though.
Slot[18] Level 32 : Hasten /Rchg,Rchg,Rchg,Rchg,Rchg,Rchg
Large reduction in the re-use time of all your other abilities. It's like putting an SO Rchg enhancer in every ability, and can be kept up practically full time when 6 slotted. Small defense boost, as well.
Slot[19] Level 35 : Neutron Bomb /Acc,DefDeb,DefDeb,DefDeb,DefDeb,DefDeb
Targeted aoe defensive debuff. Not having to stand in the middle of the baddies to use it makes it much better.
Slot[20] Level 38 : Atomic Blast /Acc,Dmg,Dmg,Dmg,Dmg,Dmg
Big bang attack... Good as a last ditch effort, or to piss off the blasters and finish off an entire crowd of enemies by yourself.
Stuff you had that I left out:
Clear Mind: Most status effects wear off within a few seconds... Faster than you can actually use this ability. The added resistance for a bit is nice, and there are some enemies that this could come in handy for... Could replace this for one of the offensive abilites.
Vengeance: Can only be used if someone in the team has died... Far too situational to be of any real use. Your abilites would be much better used making sure nobody actually dies in the first place.
Regeneration Aura: Every 6 minutes you can use 1/3 of your endurance and give the whole team a slow heal over time of about the same size as healing aura. Not that it's a *bad* ability, but there are just a lot of other, better abilities you could take.
Adrenaline Boost: Honestly, once you have Recovery aura, very few of your teammates will really run out of endurance anymore, especially anyone who took Stamina. Again, not a bad ability, but so situational with a 5 minute recharge that you're better off with an ability you'll put into constant use.

And no one cares about you.
I'm gonna put in a disenting view here on the strategy of, "OMG HEAL ENHANCEMENT x10000000000!!!!!!" I've found that a healthy mix of enhancements allows for an overall better healer than just straight heal enhancements. The reason for this is that with a mix of heal, haste, and end redux, i can crank out more heals more often than a person who just has heal enhancements. And unlike what some people have said about Endurance Aura, it's usable only every 8.5 minutes without Haste enhs. It also provides so much end recovery that i have never EVER seen someone run out of end if they get hit with it at its base effectivness. 6 slotting it with End Recoveries is flat out dumb.
So here's what i think you should do given the fact that with the number of toggles you have, you're gonna be eating up End like a black hole.
Slot[01] Level 1 (Starting Primary) : Healing Aura /Heal, Heal, End Reduc, End Reduc, Haste, Haste
This setup makes Healing Aura recharge just slightly slower than Heal Other. Because much of the time in small groups the damage gets pretty spread out, being able to rip these out like a mother fucker is a bonus.
Slot[02] Level 1 (Starting Secondary) : Neutrino Bolt /Dmg,Acc
Brawl /Acc
Fuck Brawl. It's utterly worthless for everyone beyond the low levels, but doubly so if you're trying to go for a group healing only character.
Sprint /Sprint
Rest /Rchg
Slot[03] Level 2 : Heal Other /Heal,Heal,Heal, End Reduc, End Reduc, Haste
Slot[04] Level 4 : Absorb Pain /Haste, Haste, Heal
Absorb Pain heals a shitton of health. The only real downside (aside from the obvious) is that it has a bit of a slow recharge time.
Slot[05] Level 6 : Recall Friend /Haste, Casting Speed
Slot[06] Level 8 : Resurrect /Rchg,Rchg
Ressurect is insta cast now.
Slot[07] Level 10 : Clear Mind /Rng
Slot[08] Level 12 : Fortitude /DefBuf,HitBuf, Haste, Haste
Being able to keep this on three people in a group is awsome. It also doesn't really cost enough often enough to be worth the slot for End Reduc
Slot[09] Level 14 : Teleport/ End Reduc
Slot[10] Level 16 : Maneuvers /DefBuf
Slot[11] Level 18 : Recovery Aura /Rchg, Haste, Haste, Haste
Recovery aura heals such a huge amount of End at base level it's not funny. If you feel the need to stick one or two in there, fine. You're gonna have plenty of extra slots with the build i'm giving to do wtfever you want with.
Slot[12] Level 20 : Assault / Dmg/Acc/wtfever this increases buff
Slot[13] Level 22 : Tactics /HitBuf
Slot[14] Level 24 : Hurdle/Swift and whatever one enhancement is appropriate.
Fitness is very good. Abilities that require your members to die aren't. If your group is having mass death more than you can make up for with a quick battle res, you have problems.
Slot[15] Level 26 : Regeneration Aura /Heal, Heal, Haste, Haste, Haste
If this is anything like End Aura, the key part about it is going to be getting it up and running again as fast as possible.
Slot[16] Level 28 : Health /Heal, Heal, Heal
You need this for End Regen, and it's spiff anyways. You DID say you wanted to focus on group healing right?
Slot[17] Level 30 : Regen /End Regen, End Regen, End Regen, End Regen
This will help you alot. Unlike what someone else said, unless you're in a group with one or two other people with uber End recharge abilities, you're gonna NEED regen for heavy battles where your End Aura isn't up. This is especially true with the toggles that you're gonna have up.
Slot[18] Level 32 : Adrenalin Boost /Rchg,Rchg,Rchg
From the description given of this ability, much like End Aura i don't think you're gonna need End Enhancements in there, but if you want to throw some in, go for it.
Slot[19] Level 35 : Neutron Bomb /DefDeb,Dmg,Acc
Slot[20] Level 38 : Atomic Blast /Dmg,DefDeb,Acc
And ya. That's my input.

nem-x had this to say about Punky Brewster:
You'll still get your primary Empathy powers early on. And instead of getting gimped gimped blaster powers, you get awesome debuffs, etc.
Have you actually played a Defender very far nem?
Controllers get better crowd control powers such as roots and confuses, but thier offense is even worse than a Defenders. Defenders get the best buffs/debuffs/Support aside from Force Fields possibly for buffs and Psionics for offense. Almost regardless of what Defender set you take. (Some Defender sets are pretty weak). Also, Controllers are crappy healers compared to Defenders until the high end since Empathy is a secondary, and taking too much from thier secondary to improve their healing is kinda dumb since it almost totally ruins a controllers effectiveness. Again until high levels, and the controllers Empathy set finnaly catches up to what a Defender has had for forever. And unlike a Controller, ALL Defender offensive powers buff/debuff in some way in ADDITION to whatever thier primary buff/debuff/empathy set may be. (Electric Defenders being an exception since Edurance drain does Jack and Shit, compareably.)
Radiation Defenders kick ass, Mutation rocks, some healing is cool, Uber Defense and Resistance Debuffs, Slows, and Roots. Plus, at the higher end, some devestatingly powerful offensive powers. Faelynn LeAndris fucked around with this message on 06-24-2004 at 02:11 PM.
