My birthday is October 25th. I'll be 18.

Will I be able to vote in the November elections?

Same here, except my birthday's the sixth.

As I understand it, you can as long as you've registered by the second or so of October.

It varies state by state.

But for you, Suddar, if you do in fact dwell in Maine, you can register to vote right up to and including the election day.

Technically everyone should vote.

And just because Somthor talks doesn't mean you should listen to him.

Vote for who you want, even if it isn't Bush or Kerry. Vote for an independent, if you want. Voting is really important.

Of course I should vote. Everybody should vote.

Or was that a comment on your perception of my character and maturity?

Indeed. All the political discussions are pointless if you didn't vote. I wasn't able to vote for/against bush in office, so I try to refrain from bashing/praising him (HE WAVED AT STEVIE FUCKING WONDER, MAN.), but I DO know I'll be voting democrat wherever I can. Too bad PA is mostly republicans (Or, I think they are.. wtf, where would I check).

Pennsylvania is a swing state, I think. Gore won it in 2000 though, just for reference.

I believe in some some states you can actually register before you are 18. It just isn't official until your birthrday.

I like the commercials that run (Albeit very rarely) that push for 20 million voters in 2k4.

That'd be awesome. It'd be an actual republic!

But wait, don't we have 250 million americans? Why is less then 10% of our population voting?

Umm, what? It is a republic. Each section votes for a representative.

Not all 250 million are eligible, and I don't know if we have 250m CITIZENS of the United States or if that's just the population total. Not everybody who lives here is a citizen, after all. On the whole, I think less than 50% of the people who CAN vote, do. Or I heard that figure being thrown around before.

If we push for 20 million voters, and we have 250 million, but half those who can vote actually vote, that would still only be 40 million eligible voters, according to you. Hmm.

Check out the graph on page two here.

If I understand that table correctly, in the 2000 presidential election about 186 million of the 250 millions people in the US are eligable to vote. Out of those 186 million, about 111 million did vote.

The commercials pushing for 20 million votes are trying to get youth voters.

So 20 million voters in the (I think) 18-24 age bracket.

NOT 20 million voters overall.

All times are US/Eastern
