So, I got a Linksys USB wireless network adapter thingy.

Problem is, it disconnects every 5-15 minutes.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

EDIT: I did check their website, it's not very helpful...

Here's a picture of what it says when it disconnects.

Did you put in the SSID and wep key if you have one (please dear god tell me you have one).

What all does the signal have to pass through to get from the hub to the terminal?

SSID maybe, but WEP is just a pain in the ass unless there's another nerdy type person within 100 feet of your WAP (outside of your household).

Those signals can be picked up up to 3 miles away with the right equipment (a pringles can)

Regardless, it takes 30 seconds to set and you have peace of mind. I don't know what the loss is.

not when I can't access my WAP through any means excepting USB, and it's nowhere near a computer

Gadanii stopped lurking long enough to say:
Yeah, I put in the WEP key.

If your driver has a signal strength over time graph i would recomend watching it and paying attention to your house noises at the same time.

At work, we had a guy who would lose connection in his office a few times a day, he could never figure out what it was. Then one day we sat there and watched the signal, and when someone went into the kitchen and nuked a pop tart, it bottomed out.

Other things like heaters, sweepers, refridgerator compressors, ceiling fans... they can all affect signal strength because they put out noise polution.

See if you can figure out what it is. See if you can figure out if it is an appliance.

he's gone to bed--

It's a desktop. He got it so that he could move his computer into his room. He's testing the reliability of the connection in the same room before he moves it. However, his bedroom is closer to the WAP than the room his computer is in currently...

It could be any kind of interference at this point =/

2.4 ghz signals don't really care about walls and all that jaz as much as 900 mhz do. They are more effected by other devices though. If there is a 2.4 ghz cordless phone or 3 in the house it could have adverse effects. If all else fails a good trouble shooting technique will be to try unplugging all 2.4 ghz base stations just to see if the signal strength improves.

Whenever I want to cook something, I just put it on my wireless hub.

Well, the thing is, his signal strength is generally 80% or better, but it still cuts off.
