This is really starting to drive me insane.

My cable connection has turned to total shit over the last day or so, rendering it impossible to play any games. It is fine for a bit, then all of a sudden a massive shitstorm of packetloss pops up. During said shitstorms, my firewall picks up a fuckton of ICMP destination unreachable bouncebacks.

I have tried everything I could think of to remedy the situation. Firewall off, firewall on with reduced security, releasing and renewing the IP, rebooting, power cycling, running ad-aware, killing suspicious programs in msconfig...

Out of ideas, and nothing left to try

No router. Just a cable modem, then a nifty short piece of CAT5 connecting it to the NIC.

This same thing happened to my friend. Have you ever used ad-aware? He got it to stop after he scanned it with Ad-aware. *shrugs*

running ad-aware,

Being a n00b is hard, but your heart was in the right place. Even if your spelling wasn't.

I'd say take it up with the cable company, see if they're having any network problems, or if your neighbors on the network are downloading lots of porn or something.

It's obvious that you have angered the tiny demon who lives in your computer. You should appease him by sacrificing one of your old games in a ritual known as the "M`ikro W`aivmelt." If you do this, he will restore your internet connection to its former glory.

Sounds like your central ISP connection is having trouble, not your local hookup. Check to see if this is happening to other people too, so you can make an organized complaint if need be.

Who's your ISP?

Oh, and you might want to try asking on Broadband Reports. (Yes, I know the link is to dslreports.com. Its still called Broadband Reports.) They have some decent forums setup.

I had the exact same problem a while ago. It was caused by a faulty wall outlet and smooshed cables.

Check your cables and make sure they arn't bent a lot or pinched anywhere.

I don't know how to be sexy. If I catch a girl looking at me and our eyes lock, I panic and open mine wider. Then I lick my lips and rub my genitals. And mouth the words "You're dead."
