I was playing tradewars earlier, and I got the idea that it might be fun and enjoyable to start a little mini-bbs thing so we could all play the great doorgames of the past, like tradewars, LoRD, usurper, exitilus, and all. My questions are these:

1.) Would you want to play any of the great textgames of the past?
2.) If so, which ones?

Only issue is, I'm looking for a decent BBS software..the one I've got will only allow four people on at a time..

If anyone knows of a better option, feel free to PM me.

best bet is to get os/2.... its too much a pain in the ass to get dosemu right on linux, but it's doable.... in any case you need something that will emulate fossil drivers so you can redirect comports to telnet

edit: LORD 2 was AWSOME! think of multiplayer zelda on ansi form the mind of seth able

There are windows-based BBS solutions that will handle inbound telnet connects... Run tradewars and everything...

That's what playing Ragnarok Online taught me: There's no problem in the universe that can't be resolved by the proper application of daggers to faces.

linux, huh? Heh. I've ran a perfectly wonderfully stable telnet-bbs in windows xp for a long time. =) I just want something that can handle more than 4 people at a time, and i'm not about to drop 500 bucks for wildcat. =)

Anyone remember that Starcraft text rpg? ... that's really all I can say about it, I barely remember it myself.

Best text game ever. Pure text/ascii, absolute gold. By far the most engrossing I've ever played

Have you tryed WWIV? It is what I use to run and last I remember it supports Telenet and it can handle alot of connentions at once... Windows based as well.

I ran a WWIV BBS for years =) Registered it and the whole works, still know my reg number =)

but, for my purposes, wwiv isn't what i want. Synchronet's working a lot better, it's free, and it's infinitely expandible. As soon as I have a decent amount of content (Read: More than just LORD and usurper) I'll give y'all the address.

update:

I've got LoRD 1 and Usurper working. I'm working on Exitilus, Trade Wars, and BRE/FE For tonight, not sure how far i'll get with 'em considering how long the first two took...I'll probably go public once I have ten or so games working..

no frills or message boards or anything, That's what EC is for. =)
