Topic: My Love of Sound

I love music, sound, even sound effects if they're good enough. Recently, I found a cool little program called Soundprobe that allows me to edit music, sounds, basically any audio file. Playing around with it a bit, I really came to like it, so I decided on a little challenge on myself.

Aanile wanted a copy of the Beachboy's Cocomo song. The two available copies I did find of the song on Kazaa sucked royal ass. They skipped, scratched, you get the idea. So using Soundprobe, I was able to make a decent copy.

I really like doing this kind of thing I think but I'm clueless as to career opportunities, other than DJ, of what I could put this interest to use too. Any ideas or suggestions?

Also, when I checked out Khy's FTP today I started downloading some of the Reboot episodes. The guitar duel between Bob and Megabyte in episode 11, Season 1, was a real hoot to me, plus I really like the sound of it.

Bob & Megabyte Guitar Duel

It's been edited using a combo of VirtualDub and Soundprobe, including removing some dialogue. I'd like some comments on it, good or bad, if anyone cares to give them.

Sound booth producers (in recording studioes, der) have a job very similar to what you described as your likes. They "duck" (mute) missed notes, splice together tries at a song track, give musical advice to the musicians, be able to work with people (often times that are very eccentric), and get the record ready to be published. They usually are given credit on the back cover and liner notes of the LP.

My suggestion is to try and sniff out how good your local music scene is, and how many people have in-house recording studioes. If there seems to be a lack of recorders, you may want to get your own gear and start offering to record.

Or try and get a degree in it, either or. Depends on whether you want paper or want to try and build up credibility from your own local scene. My suggestion is to do both, try and find a community college that you can take music theory classes at in addition to classes on sound booth operations, and musical mastering/producing. Then while going start doing some recordings - you'll get practical experience and you'll get your name out there.

PM me if you have any questions or want clarification on something.

So, if you had to choose between being blind or deaf, you'd choose blindness?

Touch and hearing can replace sight a lot more effectively than any other sense replacing hearing.
