Just... y'know, FYI.

Anyway, I've still got the RP bug. I'm leaning towards Chrono Cross (bargain buy!), or Grandia XTreme (though only if Cam Clarke supplies a voice; "MELFICE!" ), but I'm always open to other RPG recommendations.

Also, I still want to plump for a new game to play on Halloween. I was going to get Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, but I caved and bought it last week. D'oh. For some reason, Black & White seems like it'd be a neat game to play on that particular evening

Anyway, what would be your suggestions on that front?
Silent Hill 2 is right out, however, because I'm not in the market for a new pair of pants right now

Once more into the breach, my friends, once more. We'll close the wall with our dead. In peace, nothing so becomes a man as modesty and humility, but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with rage and lend the eye a terrible aspect.

From what I've read on Grandia XTreme, while it will be a great game, it's not going to be as true to its RP roots.

Chrono Cross is a simply great RP game, even if the "good" ending did suck. Still, very worth playing.

If you've never played and you can get your hands on it, the Lunar series is great, too.

Chrono Cross had way too many characters. I found the game a bit easy, as I never died once. Came close to it twice though. Good battles.

Too many characters and you had to sacrifice getting some to get others.

Makes for good replay, though, because you can get those characters while getting the other endings.

But yes, I do agree there were far too many. CT's 7 was good, even FFVI's 14 was good. 30+ is just far too many.

IMO Chrono Cross sucked

Seriously, what were you doing for the second half of the game?
Me: "I thought we had to go find Lynx?"
Game: "Nope, we have the board this pirate ship first"
Me: "What?"
Game: "Then we have to go fight some dragons"
Me: "..."
Game: "Then we can go find some more characters that you'll never use"
Me: "But I'll never use them..."
Game: "Then we can talk with some NPCs"
Me: "What happened to Lynx?"
Game: "He went on vacation"
WTFY

*agrees*

Edit: Final fantasy X would be the next best thing although Tidus was the most anoying character EVER, the game is still fun.

In addition to too many characters, the battle system was pretty much NOTHING like CT's, and the system in CT is a large part of what made the game so great.

On its own, CC is a fine game, but those two glaring flaws are why people don't put it up to CT's standards.

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piƱa coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

Chrono Cross felt more like a Suikoden game than CT. Hell, Serge even looks kinda like the hero from the first game.

Still, I like it. And Starkey's walk is adorible when he's on point.

I don't know how to be sexy. If I catch a girl looking at me and our eyes lock, I panic and open mine wider. Then I lick my lips and rub my genitals. And mouth the words "You're dead."

as a proud owner of G:X, i see no reason that it's not true to its roots. it plays exactly like every other grandia game that's ever existed.
