I know it's not new...

I saw it twice in Theoters, and countless times on cable and stuff now...

I was just wondering what other people thought of it...

I loved this movie. It made me cry. The final part with Danilov was excellent, as was Koenig and Zaitsev's final "face-off". The ending, during the credits... With that music playing and the Soviet imagery in the background for some reason always tugs at my heart and makes me want to cry.

Personally, I enjoyed it, and I was already familiar with the story of Vasili Zaitsev going into the movie.

Also, I have a certain great interest in Soviet/Russian History, and like much about it, down to Russian literature and folk music to the works of Stravinsky and their artillery.

I enjoyed the movie very well... Joseph Fiennes (It's late, pardon spelling) played his role very well as Danilov, and Jude Law's young face and intense eyes, yet boyish innocence was done very well. Ed Harris' equally intense stare (part of the reason he was chosen), with his crystal blue eyes and aged features made an excellent adversary.

Overall, I thought the movie was VERY well done, with an excellent soundtrack, and was quite true to the legend, except for the way in which the duel between Vasili and the Major ended.

I hope, some day, to visit various sites in Russia, and among them the Stalingrad History Museum, where Zaitsev's rifle is kept on display.

I love this movie...
Yes, it was too long, and probably didn't make much sense.

Some background info on the events at Stalingrad concering Zaitsev.

Info on the actual movie.

I'm aware of the true historical story, which is really an incredible one, but I haven't seen the movie yet...

I loved the movie... The only people I know who absolutely hated the movie are also people with next to know knowledge of history, and are particuarly shallow movie-goers. Although not everyone LIKED it a lot, most people I know atleast liked it, if not loved it, or were moved by it.

Ed Harris had the worst German accent I've ever heard.

And the best character was that Russian with the metal teeth. He died too soon.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

Enemy At The Gates was an astounding movie. It didn't get as much publicity as one would expect a movie so great would get...but then again, some of the best aren't all that publicized.

An avid War History buff, this movie already was in good standing with me. I was pleasantly surprised to see, however, that it was a good show of story and characters, too.

My favorite part is when Zaitzev's comrade (the guy with the glasses whose name escapes me) makes the sacrifice to show his friend where the enemy is hidden.

The Sniper battles were very cool, too, though I don't know how believable they were.

The only con was Zaitzev and Tanya s3xx0ring each other in the midst of several fat, fur-clad Communists. Sounds like a bad porno setting.

I give this movie two thumbs up.

This movie was indeed astounding.
It strayed a bit from history but managed to keep the overall feeling they were tyring to convey.
For instance they made the final confrontation very personal. In reality the Commisar that was with him was an idiot who saw something and stood up and said I thi..." That is about all he got out before he got sniped. Zaitsev saw a glint from the german scope and managed to put a bullet through the eyepiece of the scope and into the guys brain. Trully a shot to be remembered. But that is really nitpicking. It gave you a feeling of the horrors of that kind of scale and did a good job of showing how tiny a person must feel in those situations.

I just got sone wathing it again tonight and love it more each time.

*smiles happily* I was SOO glad when our friend Jason (an avid history buff of wars and battles of the old world and new) asked us to go see this with him. The movie in its entirety moved me to tears. *smiles at Rosa* It was so intense and I was literally at the edge of my seat as it all unfolded. *smiles* A+ for the creators, actors and general movie staff!

If you enjoyed the end music and imagery, I would suggest seeing "Testimony" starring Ben Kingsley, which chronicles Dimitri Shostakovich, the most important composer of the Soviet Union. Powerfully patriotic music that really stirs the blood.

If there's one thing the Soviets do better than anyone else, it's compose music.

Beethoven and Mozart ain't got nothin' on some of them Commie bastards.

Very good movie. Saw it in the theater and rarely watch movies in the theater any more. Just got the DVD a couple of weeks ago. I liked Kulikov (the metal teeth guy). Especially the part where he snipes the telephone guy, looks up and says, "About time for soup isn't it? And try not to spill it all this time Valodya, you Marxist bastard!" A few minor historically inaccuracies, but overall very good.

I watched it on Skin-a-max last night. Unfortunatly, I've always seemed to catch it just as Ed Harris is offering bacon and chocolate and stuff to Sacha.

So I miss the good headshots.

I, too, very much enjoyed this movie.

Jude Law is one of my favorite villain actors, but he was also extremely good in this movie.

Also wins my award for "Most unthinkable sex scene in any movie, ever."
