I will be enlisting as an E-3 (yes, a Seaman) and I have a pretty sweet job package.
Lets see... I will ship off to boot on the 28th of June, 2003. Now's the cool part:
Upon completion of boot camp, I will go to Pensacola, FL, and attend Class "A" tech school. I'll be paid to go to class and get my certification in all sorts of computer and electronics equipment and programs, then I'll be shipped off to a Naval reserve base. By that time, I will have fully qualified to go to my job, which is an Aviation Electronics, Electrical, and Computer Systems technician.
Here's the catch: I will still be active service Navy. The only reason I will be going to a raserve base is to supervise and help train the reservees. I will also be reaping the full military benefits and coverage, as well as the pay, while working a job that will allow me to get off by 1PM. While doing this job, I can easily get my degree with evening courses and not to mention, I get to play with all sorts of cool military things, lik:
digital computer
fiber optics
infarared detection
radar systems
electricity generation systems
laser electronics
navigation systems
communication equipment
electrical power distribution
pressure indication systems
electric transformers and circuits
By the way, did I mention that I will have my college paid in full by the Navy? And they dont control my degree. Also, along with the college, I receive an enlistment bonus of $5,000 if I tack on an extra 12 months to my contract, to be dropped as a lump sum into my bank account. Since I am going career, this is perfect.
Also, as a Aviation computer systems tech, I can volunteer to fly as Naval aircrew. Not only is THAT cool, but I get paid EXTRA!

Sweet! Now I know who to go to when I need to use my digital computer to get a fiber optic readout of my infared detectors connected to my radar systems that watch over my electricity generation systems that power my laser electronic navigation systems to find the communication equipment used by the operators of the electrical power distribution grids for the pressure indication systems that measure the (_|_) levels!
Oh.
Electric transformers and circuits.
wish i had a chance like that to get an education for free, heh.
12 months after that, I am eligable for E-5.
Yea... I'm a little jealous
Anyway, it sounds good, Aza. I'm glad it all worked out with the physical, I'm glad you're happy, and going to be happy for prolonged periods. Now you have less than a year to party hard civilian-style before shipping off
