Also, how much kung fu does the system have to contain?

Nice try, though. [ 09-14-2002: Message edited by: Black Mage ]

You still have command prompts and you can run programs in compatibility modes
As far as Using windows XP, I do kinda like it, problem is it keeps randomly resetting windows when I play any game (especially EQ, which is bad for a quadding druid).
Conflict between my Sound Card and something, I have determined it to be. The problem here is that Windows XP determines the IRQ that the piece of Hardware uses by which slot, physically, on the motherboard the sound card takes. I'd need to switch my sound card into a different slot to get it to work. And I'm too lazy to do that. So I stick with Windows 98. It's done me well since I had it. Moral of the Story: Use Windows XP on a machine you build only if you know wtf you're doing, if not, windows 2000 is a good alternative, or Windows 98 is good too.
And actually I have been around forever, I just haven't checked the boards or posted in over a year and a half. =)
your sound problems aren't due to shoddy dos support. it's because you have a conflict with your soundcard.
and you're saying you were a techie?

So don't count on Win98SE running ye olde DOS stuff any better than Win2K or XP.

I think different Windows versions can be installed on different partitions in a drive even, but it's better if they're separate drives entirely.
