Just curious. Not like I'll be getting one or anything *coughcough*.

Eh, I feel the Focus looks a little more bulky and not as streamlined.
Not everyone likes hatchbacks, I suppose.

The hatchback thing is nice, I guess, but it all hearkens back to what you're looking for in a car. As I've said before, most 4-cylinder engines lost what kick they have when the A/C kicks in, so a not-too-bad car will become out and out slow.

Really sucks to go from 0 F to 100 F in a year.. Wish It'd stay in one place, but I'm too lazy to move into a cave.

The Matrix and the Vibe are the EXACT SAME CAR. Same powertrain, same dimensions, everything. GM and Toyota did the same thing in 80's with the Nova/Corolla.The hatchback thing is nice, I guess, but it all hearkens back to what you're looking for in a car. I don't plan to street race or anything of that nature too often if ever. As long as it has a decent speed when getting going from a stoplight, I'll be happy with it.

*chuckles at his own wit*
I hate those cars. They have no power (Well, they didn't until the new GT Turbo came out), and it seems like every 40 or 50 year old trying to live out there dreams of driving a 'cool' car, and going 30 miles above the speed limit owns them.
And I think they are really lame looking too.
All other cars shall be subject to the almighty truck...save for certain exceptions.
[EDIT] My friend has the 130 horse version, not the 180. I imagine, though, that the 2ZZ-GE engine really makes the car drivable.
One thing though, if you have a choice between the Focus and the Matrix, I'd go with the focus. It made Car and Driver's ten best vehicles, and a few other publications liked it as well.
Just my thoughts, though. [ 09-10-2002: Message edited by: Cap'n Elethi ]

Is passenger room a consideration?

To add to that, a friend of mine just got a Matrix. If you aren't going to drive it like it has more power, then don't worry about it. It's a nice little hatchback.[EDIT] My friend has the 130 horse version, not the 180. I imagine, though, that the 2ZZ-GE engine really makes the car drivable.

Actually, we (my dad and I) were looking into getting a Focus. We testdrived one and liked how sharp it turned and such. It has a very nice, low to the ground feel to it.
The problem is that my parents have safety really in mind for me, so with all the recalls Focuses in previous years have had and the problems previous Ford cars we have owned have faced are all added up, it shows that the Focus wouldn't be very likely for me, especially when it's my parents paying for it.
And Karnaj, I imagine I won't be hauling around too many people. Probably will be driving by myself most of the time or with one passenger.
Vaaaaannn.

Yeah. I figured as much. Well, the Matrix is a good choice for what you're looking for if you need the cargo room.
If not, why not go for a sedan?

I can't remember why, but I seem to remember having at one point a want for more cargo space.
Plus I prefer the look of hatchbacks. Maybe I'm weird.
