There are also 300some pages that could be deleted if that would help. [ 02-25-2002: Message edited by: Kinanik ]
I don't think I can find that picture of Gumbi again

I'm in the process of trying to figure out why the boards have been so hella slow lately, and my performance monitoring showed that 85% of the CPU time was spent figuring out user sig images, so I've got them disabled for a while to see how it effects the server.
You don't happen to think that could have anything to do with your random Legolas sig pic script, could it?
WE STILL HAVE PICTURES!

If they're a problem, don't worry about it Drys. We'll find other ways to ID people posting.

Yeah. Everything's still there, it's just not showing them right now.

Nope, that scripting ran in the browser, not on the server, and I stopped using that a few days ago anyway.

Ahh, cool.
For both of your answers. I'm too lazy to quote both of them.

Didn't start going really slow when you added
It's been going slow for a while before that, I just added that button a couple days ago and it doesn't do anything on the server.
When you click it, it runs some Javascript to update your "last logged in" cookie to the time you refreshed the page; all on the browser, it doesn't touch the server at all.

Id take a reduction in size if it helped you out.

Pictures in people's sig text, though, isn't local. It's linked from off-site. So it's basically adding another link to the HTML, which really doesn't make the server process THAT much more. Makes other servers do it for us.

It was the sigpics. And the sigpics were fine, but have progressively been getting worse as more and more people have been joining the board, mainly because they were set never to cache (so that pages would update immediately when you changed your image). I'm setting up a caching solution for them now.
If you don't have your sig pic anymore, you might be able to salvage it from IE's cache. Go to the File menu, click "Work Offline", then click the History button on the toolbar, and go back and pull up old EC forum pages. If you find one that has your sig pic on it, drag it from IE to your desktop and that'll save a copy of it.
Pick Work Offline from the File menu again to put IE back to online mode.
The other way is to go to the Tools menu, "Internet Options", click on the Settings button under the General tab in the Temporary Internet Files box, then click "View Files", sort the view by name, and look for files with names starting with "show.mp"
Or, take a look here to see if one of the images in my IE cache happens to be your pic. [ 02-26-2002: Message edited by: Drysart ]
