Yep you got the midevil weapons, dragons, magic but you also got the new age energy plants, guns and lasers. FF7 therefore has the best universe to roleplay in someone just needs to design a tabletop game based on it. Note the game should NOT follow the whole cloud/sephiroth story.

Actually, he has a point. All sorts of character concepts can work in the FF7 game setting.

Mecha, magic, genetic enginering, old Ruins hiding deadly power, evil corporations, organized crime, monsters.....

They quietly pulled off what Rifts has allways tried to do. Anything goes, everything works.

I believe in the existance of magic, not because I have seen proof of its existance, but because I refuse to live in a world where it does not exist.

EXACTLY! Most any story you could imagine could be pulled off in the FF7 world with a pretty good explination.

Actually I was going to run my next D&D RP game in a FF7 "steampunk" sort of environment. Unfortunately the general consensus of my players poo-pooed the idea. I thought it would be badass. Oh well.

I saved, though, I'm gonna play it when I'm fresh and rested.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

But you've gotta love the RTS mini-game at the top of Fort Condor! I must have reset my Playstation a dozen times just for the mini-game.

While I fully agree with you that the FF7 universe is great for roleplay, I'd like to point out that MagiTek is present in a great many final fantasy games.

FF6, 8, 10, and to a lesser extent 9 all took place in a MagiTek oriented universe.

How do you plan to handle the concept of using "materia" for spellcasters? In FF7 they could only cast spells with the equivalent of a perma-scroll. Then there's the whole points system for magic casting, which (if you use 3E) could potentially require an excessive degree of reverse engineering.

I ain't using materia. I'd use the standard 3e magic system. Weapons that can channel spells aren't uncommon (just a variant of "Spell-Storing" really) so if I wanted to mess with it I could say that spell-storing weapons are relatively easy to make. Just need rechargeable power cells or something.

If I did use materia, I'd pretty much go about the way you said; spells are in the item, you draw from the item to cast it through yourself at however many times a day you can cast the spell as per your class. Simple. Sort of like an altered runecaster.

The boss walked right up the hill with no problems. Then, I killed him in direct combat.

I hit a lot of crap too

Even by the time I got the hang of it, I was exasperated. It was TOO DAMN LONG.

The motorcycle thing wasn't thrilling either. VII just really annoyed me. Every damn time I turned around, it was another minigame. Got so frustrated sometimes I wanted to just throw my controller right through my damned PS One.

BoF IV, while fun, has damn annoying minigames. Unlike FF7, however, they aren't the "pitch your controller at the wall and don't play for three weeks" kind (snowboarding... GAWD... and that biking thing was death). They're just inconvenient. And sometimes badly placed (the chicken game was tolerable. What I HATE however, is levels like the last one and Fou-Lu's tomb... the whole place is one big puzzle, locked doors and keys at really inconvenient parts of the level.). If you can get that, you should really get the game... playing through it again, it really is good.

Plus, it has the faerie village. I LOVE the faerie village.

And Scias is too cool

The thing with the guards was what got me. I couldn't do it. It pissed the hell out of me and I eventually got caught and attacked anyway.

However, it's all worth it by the feeling I got when I first got to fly the Highwind. I can go ANYWHERE! WHEEEEEE!!!
