That is the STUPIDEST thing Squaresoft could ever do in a game. Fucking bullshit. Be awhile before I even touch that game again
That does sound sucky.

Damned if ya do and all that.
The trick is to keep at it. Eventually you'll learn how to prevent the full group death, or redirect it, or work around it.
That's what makes RPG battles challenging: The tactical aspect. Other than that it's just menu selections.
Honestly, who bred a gold chocobo before beating Ruby?
crickets
That's what I thought.
Is megadeath a fire/thunder/water or ice type spell? Just get your anti(fire/thunder/water or ice) spell on. Or is it one of those ultima type spells?
If all else fails, just email bomb sony with the message "how do I kill uberbytch??"

Emerald Weapon was fucking easy. Ruby was the bitch if you didn't already have KoR.
Jeebus I beat Ruby easy without KoR, all you had to do was knock the claws out and unload on the body.
Emerald's full group 9999 attack kinda pissed on the parade though.

if i remember correctly...he's the one with the spell/ability that hits everyone for 1111 damage for each materia they have equiped. and, you probably 9+ materias on each char. if i'm right about both, that was the "9999 damage to the entire group" attack that was (most likely) kickin' your @$$.
team was tidus, lulu, and auron. auron had a bracer that wards zombie, its almost impossible for everyone not to turn into zombie. so just leave them as zombies, if they don't tuen into zombies, it will keep doing the hellbitter till they do. so have holy water, esuna doesn't cure it.
now on to megadeath. it can be evaded. get mag def and evasion up. pretty sure those factor in to evadeing magic. also be sure to get attack up and def up.also go out and fight monsters till you get atleast 6 Mega-Phoneixs, if all but 1 person dies and their turn is next they can revive the 2 that died. i had auron doing like 3000 to 5000 each hit. lulu had flare, she was doing 3700 to 4000 with flare. tidus was doing like 1600 to 3000. had him and auron into warrior overide mode
save the aeons till the 3rd form, just use them all up on that form.that when aeons gone, have straongest characters attack it till dead
get mag def, evade, def,hp. and str up

fight before seymour (2nd time you face him after he dead) in the mountain area
got spheres right next to a save point (they heal you) [ 12-30-2001: Message edited by: Mr. Duck ]
Was there a flare sphere or something? Or do you mean the BLK magic spheres? If it is the BLK magic sphere, where did you find a level 3 key? Cause I got about ten level 1 keys, seven level 2 keys, and three level 4 keys, but no level 3 key

ok better explanation. don't care for spoliers thing right now. right before I fought seymours 2nd super form in the mountains, i got my characters to a certain point on sphere grid, i fought right next to the a save point, meaning, when i finished fighting i go up to save point and used it, they heal you if you use it, don't need to save game
the flare sphere is to the upper left of the 3rd lvl blk mage spells (thundaga, firaga, etc) don't think you need a lvl 3 key sphere to get flare, lvl 2 maybe
Yuna's overdrive helps when used in conjunction with Bahamut.

But it DID take me 2 hours+ of reseting until I got it.
As for Yunalesca, she's the hardest boss in the game IMO. If you had Yojimbo, the fight 'could' be a lot easier with his Zanamoto or whatever attack that kills in one hit, but it would be totally random.
I didn't have Yojimbo or any zombie ward/proof armor. I was low on holy water, around 6 or 7.
For the first form, I casted defensive spells, then a reflect on each character after that. Use items to keep your characters alive, and you can melee/cast on her without fear of being status frigged. You do need a lot of potions though, I had 60 mega-potions from the summoner lady.
For the second form, dispell your reflects or just let your party members die. On this form, expect a lot of dying I had Lulu, Yuna, and Auron in my party most of the time. My strategy for this form was to keep my character's HP spaced out. Like Auron has 4500, Yuna 3000, and Lulu 2000. So when you get zombie, your low hp person will die first, allowing you to pheonix em, then use Yuna's heal spells/potions. This way, you'll always have someone available to pheonix a dead person. Use your holy water when you desperately need one of your character's healed or to keep the spaced hp tactic going. Use Auron's break attacks, and cast like crazy with Lulu. It took a while to beat this form cuz of that zombie/death crud but keep at it.
For the third form, make SURE you have character's that are in zombie form. At the beginning of the fight she casts that death spell, which doesn't affect zombie people. She also cast's it randomly during the battle, but only against one random person I think. Use Auron's breaks again as early as you can. After doing that, this is where you start bringing out the aeons and their overdrives. By now, Yuna should be able to grand summon if she wasn't already. Summon all your aeons in a row. I started with Vaelfor and worked my way down, and grand summon'd Bahamut to mega flare twice.
Use your aeons only for their overdrive, and dismiss as soon as you can because Yunalesca will drain them to death and gain HP off of it.
I switched Yuna out with Rikku a few times for her Al bhed potions, and Auron and Lulu with my other party members just to spread out damage and let other's take the hits for my main party.
This boss fight is totally BS I had to retry about 10 times, all trying to perfect on killing the third ugly arse form. But I tell ya, it's mostly friggin luck that you can beat her. But once you

I've had that game for, oh 2, 3 years now, still haven't beaten it. Got me a gold Chocobo though, haven't gotten round to getting KoR, or beating any of the weapons though.

I did. Got my gold chocobo before I fought emerald... Got it before Emerald and Ruby were ever around. I had to get my KoR materia. Not hard if you are willing to spend time with it. Anyways, I got my gold chocobo the first try... Maybe, it was the fact that I maxed my chocobos.
I read about them on a spolier site after I beat the game!
Well, mainly because I like to beat a game on my own before I start reading spoiler sites and the like.
First everyone had a Zombie Ward and Tidus had Death Proof.
Her first form I cast Hasteaga and cast Reflect(Because of the Blind Counter attack she has) on everyone and just beat her down.
Second Form I dispelled everyone's reflect and when she did that tentacle attack that turns people to zombies it wouldn't work most of the time. If I did I just used Yuna to use a Holy Water.
Third Form I cast haste on Yuna and use her as the Holy Water/Healer type. When she cast the death spell it would sometimes kill Auron and Yuna but Tidus could easily revive them with a Pheniox Down. [ 12-31-2001: Message edited by: Dead Tired ]
... unless.. Bah, I bet it was 60 Farplane Winds. I used that to put "Deathstrike" on Tidus' sword.
His sword is an Avenger. Has "Counterstrike" "First Strike" and "Deathstrike." He's brutal with that on anything but a boss. The First Strike is crucial though. He gets one free turn at the beginning of EVERY fight. Even when I get ambushed, he goes first. Plus, in boss fights, it lets me Hastega before anything else happens. I highly recommend first strike

Otherwise, I gotta figure out how to get more of them.

Yuna would summon all the aeons she could, they would use their ODs first attack, then yojimbo came in. he ROCKS
