How come there are so many gott damn magic classes in EQ? I never understood this. There're like 3-4 melee mainstays, then one or at most two ranged guys, then about a billion magical fairy faggot things

Then either the game isn't "Old EQ" and they've introduced some of the 'broken' shit from later updates or 90% of that server is in dire need of some Special Needs Attention.

It is a lot like classic EQ from what little I saw when messing around on there, but I backed off because the lead dev acts like a complete douchebag.

Certain things like shared exp penalties are bullshit, and were pulled out by Verant (after a long period of time) because they were bullshit. Okay, putting them in makes the game more classic I guess, but now people tend to not want to put up with hybrid classes. Wonderful.

Then they nerf city guard spawn rates to lower the amount of exp that can be gained through that method, even though THAT change didn't come until years after Velious was released and not in the time-frame of the entire classic EQ project.

What does all of this mean? Classic EQ and this fucking server make me nerdrage more than any other thing out on the internet. It's the closest thing you're going to get to a classic EQ experience, just don't step on the lead dev's (Nilbog) toes, and expect a fuckton of drama and bullshit if for some retarded reason you decide to pursue the godawful raid game.

What made EQ suck more than anything was the customer service. They would literally shit in your mouth if you had a complaint.

For a while Bristlebane was the most unstable server. My roommate and I would make a point of getting banned from chat when the server crashed by asking pointed questions and refusing to take their BS "it doesn't answer anything" answers.

I've created a necromancer for the first time ever, let me guess Maradon, the reason they get fucked is because there's a gap at some point when the pet isn't strong enough to take on equal level enemies? Is that it?

Up front they were fucking destructive. If a mob was capable of being feared it died. The pet was there as an additional DoT. The came the nerfs and such because other classes weren't capable of soloing like-leveled things and pissed and moaned about it.

Probably. I don't even think I started complaining about Necromancers until Kunark, maybe even Velious. Raiding warlocks showed up to cast their dots and summon corpses and a second warlock in a 40 man was utterly superfluous.

Every grievance I had was officially addressed to my satisfaction somewhere around PoP.

I was a Guide on Bristlebane, Ayaen the Mechanist. ;/

Granted, I spent most of my time hanging out with people, giving out NO RENT cookies and spending the rest of the time GM-invisible staking out camp steal reports. Not like I could do anything about the actual crashes and rollbacks.

Best parts about being on Bristlbane was killing GMs in PoF.

GM ports in, stays in a corner, but doesn't bother to invis or invuln. At some point Pouty (Monk, GM of Club Fu) would wind up pulling 15 or 20 things and FD at the GM's feet. Even funnier was the GM accepting the "no XP" rez afterwards.
