Topic: What vacuum should I buy?

My current vacuum cleaner is a steamvac. I dropped a bit of plastic that's supposed to hold the clean water. It has a crack in it and now it won't hold water. Replacing this small bit of plastic that serves no function other than holding water costs half as much as a new vacuum cleaner.

I got a cheap $90 vacuum from costco but it lost its sucking power after about a week. I've got a roomba too but it's batteries are shot.

It's time for me to get a new one (or two).

I'm looking for:
- Something that cleans hardwood.
- Something that cleans carpet
- Something that cleans a carpeted staircase
- Something that can handle hard to reach places like carpet under a king sized bed.
- It must last a long while, have a good warranty, and be cheap to fix.
- It must not blow dust everywhere. I don't care how it does this - be it collecting the waste in water, a hepa filter, or whatever, but this is important.

What vacuum/vacuums should I get? Why? What should I look for when buying a new model?

I asked three separate places so far and got the same answer from all of them.

This makes the decision rather easy.

As one who suffers from allergies while cleaning house, my wife thoroughly endorses anything Dyson. I personally like the Ball design for mobility.

As soon as my old vacuum breaks, I gonna get a Dyson too.

Break already, dammit.

We have a Dyson, too, and it's very nice, does a great job, and is easy to maneuver into all the little nooks and crannies.

Its pricey, but see about a Kirby. I have one, and that thing does everything but my dishes, I swear.

Kirby and Dyson are the two best from my experience as well. Well worth the investment!

My grandma has had the same Kirby for over 40 years. She can still find parts for it and get it serviced. It even has carpet shampooing attachments.

Came to a decision. I'm getting a new Dyson DC25.

If I go to Bed Bath and Beyond I can get a new one for a little over $350ish instead of $500.

Steps to reproduce
1) Get a 20% off coupon that they send you in the mail
2) Go to the online store and print out the information on the Upright Blueprint vacuum, which is online only but $100 less than the others. It's the same as the other DC25s but has a different paint job.
3) Drive over to a brick and mortar store, ask them to make an online purchase shipped to your house. Since you are paying through a cash register, you can use the 20% off coupon even though you are using the online rate. THe cost should be around $320 and the shipping should be $30. Add tax.

The above was a suggestion of Bed Bath and Beyond representative. Friendly folks.

Why does this not have a gigantic fucking next to it?

Be wary.

Look at all the documentation first. Sometimes, you have little things like an "a" after a model number. Sometimes, it gets hidden elsewhere.

That little difference means different things. On my phone, it meant that AT&T had disabled the fucking wifi to try and force me onto medianet.

On a power drill, it can mean the gears and shit are plastic instead of metal.

On a vacuum, it can mean that the 5amp rating applies to a different fucking motor of dubious quality, but of lesser price.

Yes, it can mean that on a Dyson.
Yes, it happened to me.

Yeah, I have absolutely no idea why mobile phones are called Handy here. It makes little to no sense. vOv

I had been resisting it as well, but I figured that since there were a good number of suggestions and such it was time to let it go.
