Kind of a heads up here for people, but Doom 3 has been appearing (and dissapearing) on the shelves of Best Buy in some areas. They're not supposed to be selling it this early, and Best Buy is catching a lot of shit for doing it. I'd recommend calling up before you go out there though, because stores are being told to take it off the shelves ASAP. There's a chance you might get it though.

Yes, Doom 3 is special and gets its own release thread. Its fucking Doom 3 afterall.

From the reviews I've read it has.

Had I a better video card, I might consider buying it. But the video card comes first. Then Doom 3.

But the press it generates for them offsets it, especially since people will come in hoping to get it early, and likely buy something else. They may also expect Best Buy to do the same thing with other big releases, like Half Life 2.

Wallmart did the same for planes of power awhile back, from my understanding the word got fast out and they sold every copy.

Watching the trailer, I get a real good feeling that you are always being watched, or something is always after you. Always wanting to check every single nook and crany just to make there isn't some sort of super demon hiding waiting to rip your head off

I so wish I had some money to upgrade for this game, it looks sooo purty.

Yup, been on Usenet since yesterday night and Overnet/Emule since this morning. Fully cracked and working, with a key generator for possible online play. Pirates are swarming the damn thing.

I'm somewhat concerned about this, mainly because I plan on buying the retail version, and I hope nobody else gets my CD Key via their keygens =/

At least, I don't care if they do, if they play single-player, I just want to make sure nobody takes mine for online play. I won't claim to have never pirated a game in my life, but I will say the only ones I've ever downloaded were single-player.

Plus, I'm hoping that CRC checking will fuck over people trying to play online with cracked copies.

Wait for the demo They've stated they're going to get a Demo of the game out soon after the game's actual release. They'd have had one out already but they wanted to finish the game before working on anything else, Demo or not.

Actually, there's no ETA on the demo. And the game went gold awhile back, so there was really enough time to put something together unless they're doing something along the lines of the HL demo.

Not sure about that. Last I heard was 'We're going to put together a demo once Doom 3 is completely done.'

I'm betting they're going to be CLOSELY monitoring the forums and watching for any serious issues to hit, and work on patches for any major issues that crop up, for the next week or two after it hits shelves.

Did they keep Cyberdemon in Doom 3?

I remember that boss fight scared the living crap outta me.

From a BitTorrent?

I always get crappy rates for some reason, like 5KB/sec throughout.

I can usually find exceptional rates on KaZaA, but I really don't like using that for games because they get so bug-ridden.

Ports 6881-6999 are open right? A lot of trackers moved off 6881-6889 because ISPs started blocking them on their side.

Find out what ports the tracker uses. Those are just the most common. It may be that your ISP is blocking ports that the tracker uses, which means you're pretty much screwed anyway.

Personally, I use Overnet for my P2P needs. Can change the ports to whatever I feel like, which means no ISP firewall. Also, you can tell exactly what you're downloading because every file is CRC checked. You can check what the file is called the same thing for everyone who's downloading it, which probably means that its the right thing.

In my experience actual download speeds aren't really the problem any more with the exceptions of servers in Australia which suck for some reason, I can download things from the US or Asia at whatever the server allows without much trouble. Latency however still sucks for any server not in Austria, Germany the Netherlands or Scandinavia.

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.
