Book of Enchantments, and there are two I believe, although it's been a while since I picked that one up and read it.

She also did Mairelon the Magician and The Magician's Ward, two of my favorite books of all time. I love the setting.

Two? Even better. I've never even seen The Book of Enchantments. I'll have to stalk around for it next time I hit a bookstore.

--

Just checked my bookshelf.

Read the series by Lloyd Alexander starting with 'The Book of Three'. It follows a young lad named 'Taran'... 4 book series I believe.

The Book of Three
The Black Cauldron
The Castle of Llyr
The High King

Next are some Sci-Fi books. If it's not your thing, sorry. Tad Williams 'Otherland' series. Near-future setting. 4 books afaik.

City of Golden Shadows
River of Blue Flame
Moutain of Black Glass
Sea of Silver Light

Terry Brook's Magic Kingdom of Landover series.

Maigc Kingdom for Sale - Sold!
The Black Unicorn
Wizard At Large
The Tangle Box
Witches' Brew

And finally, Diane Duane's Wizardy series. (light reading)

Time was never on my side.
So on I wait my whole lifetime.

Yes! The Kingdom of Landover series is extremely entertaining

And I thought I was the only person in existence who'd read So You Want to Be a Wizard

I've read up to The Wizard's Dilemma, but not A Wizard Alone yet.

The Wizard's Dilemma made me sad

High Wizardry was such a weird book.

I haven't read A Wizard's Dilemnia. Been a long, long time since I picked up a Wizardry series book.

You'll want to read A Wizard Abroad, first. It's the fourth. Then The Wizard's Dilemma and the sixth in the series is A Wizard Alone.

Naw, Last night I dreampt about being outside in the middle of a mountain valley and firing a mini-cannon that would go about 500 feet (It was a pocket-sized cannon), but then I tried using it as a potato cannon and it got stuck so it wouldn't fire anymore, then I had this mario-ish jumping puzzle over a lake of fire and I had to race some chick to get there first to get the holy grail.

The other books by Terry Brooks are great. I'm a big fan of Shanarra. Sword of Shanarra, Elfstones, and Wishsong are the original 3. They re-released em on regular paperback, so they aren't expensive either...though I still paid $30 for the hardcover copy of the newest one, Morgawr. Worth it though.

The Terry Brooks series is good. It starts with First King of Shannara. You can find most of the books at wal-mart for under six bucks. Good deal.

Also check out The Elenium series and The Tamuli series also from David Eddings.

The Prydain Chronicles is a good read (The series starting with The Book of Three everyone is talking about).

The Enchanted Forest series is a fun one (Also mentioned already).

Oh! Almost forgot.

I've only read the first three in this series, but The Wars of Light and Shadow by Janny Wurts is a great collection.

There are different story arcs, but the sequence of the main series goes like this

Curse of the Mistwraith
Ships of Merior
The Warhost of Vastmark
Fugitive Prince
Grand Conspiracy
Peril's Gate

John Bellairs' are the best 'scary' books I've ever read. Plus a lot of the artwork was done by Edward Gorey.

Not sure if anyone mentioned Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. Even if you don't like, or think you wouldn't like him, you should read the series. Some of the best/wierdest fantasy books I've read:
The Gunslinger
The Drawing of the Three
The Wasteland
Wizard and Glass

I concur on Dark is Rising, Enchanted Forest, Pratchett, Eddings, Martin, Pierce, Pratchett, Card, Goodkind, Pratchett, etc. etc. And Terry Pratchett

Just about all the artwork, I believe. Or at least one edition of each of the novels was Gorey's work.

I like Brad Strickland, but he's not a good replacement for Bellairs. His books are flat and unexciting and kind of stupid compared to Bellairs.

Of course, who can replace an author like that?

Raymond E. Feist is an excellent author as well. Someone mentioned the Krondor the **** series, which is among his best works, but it leaves you wondering what the hell everything is unless you start way back at the beginning with Magician: Apprentice, then to Magician: Master, and so on. Then there's his other series the Serpentwar Saga which starts with Shadow of a Dark Queen.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Earthsea novels or the Amber series yet.
