I watched a recent video about Big Dog, a robot that moves with eerily lifelike agility; and it got me thinking.

Fast forward 15 years, when hobbyists can build robots in their garages with the same maneuverability.

If I build one 30 inches tall, nobody cares.

If I build one 3 feet tall, nobody cares.

If I build one 45 feet tall, (Think Mechwarrior) I get the feeling somebody would care. Does the government have any laws to stop people building potentially dangerous devices; but is not clearly a weapon?

Probably, not.

I think we debunked the possibility of bipedal robots awhile back.

But it was pretty heated with nerdrage, so I don't know if there was logic to it beyond "you're stupid." Either way, if you make a giant robot you should name it Clarice.

I think Bloodsage came in and logic bombed some very upset fanboys if I remember it correctly.

They're now working on a prototype "Alpha Dog" that's even bigger and badder. I remember the old mech thread. All sorts of problems with that idea.

You could make a bipedal mech I guess, but a modern day tank would wtfpwn it.

Civilians already have access to industrial equipment. You are talking about laws to prevent an incident like this only with a different devices.
