Topic: So, I'm done raiding.

Now I've got ~22 hours a week of free time, and I can't stop thinking of getting back on.

After 6 years of nonstop raiding, I forgot what normal people do during weeknights.

Any suggestions? Give me some fun hobbies to take up.

If you're really lucky, step 3 also counts as step 2.

Eating a lot is generally good for you, since it keeps your metabolism going.

Maybe you could take a class?

Can I have some of your free time?

Ideas off the op of my head:

  • Exercise. Set a goal of getting a six pack and benching at least your own weight.
  • Read. Get a Kindle. Those things are addicting.
  • Learn an instrument.
  • www.meetup.com - It may not be as ridiculous there as it is in boston (countless things going on every day) but it's worth checking out.
  • Start a business
  • Go hiking.
  • Join a local sports team (even ultimate frisbee counts)
  • Learn a second language
  • Learn to cook
  • Choose a field you don't know about (advanced chemistry, programming, whatever) and study the fuck out of it.
  • Write a book
  • Get involved in your town's local politics to find ways to improve the local community
  • Try to explore one new restaurant a week with friends
  • Bowling, pool, pingpong, golf.
  • Waste your life with TV and Movies
  • Keep an eye on things like Jet Blue Cheeps and go traveling.
  • Maintain a garden.
  • Home improvement projects
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen or habitat for humanity
  • Check out local museums or plays
  • Learn a craft like pottery
  • Take flying lessons
  • Start a board game night (catan, apples to apples, power grid, etc)
  • Go to bartending school for fun
  • Learn how to dance
  • Geocacheing

Listen to some operas and read a score or libretto while you do to learn what they're about; Mozart, particularly The Magic Flute (English directed by Kenneth Branagh and translated by Stephen Fry) and Don Giovanni, is probably the most accessible due his wonderful humor. If you would prefer something more dramatic, Puccini is the best; Turandot and La Boheme are my personal favorites. Wagner will likely bore you unless it's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

You'll want to do something involving social interaction a couple nights per week. Working out a couple nights per week is also a good idea. Use one night a week for errands that you would normally deal with on the weekend (laundry, grocery shopping, etc).

Socializing is lame.

OK not really. I've been trying to get out and do that lately. Moving down to Madison has definitely been a big help on that front.

RK, I would suggest just doing more of what you did when you weren't raiding. Be it hanging out with friends, exercising, whatever. You don't have to fill the blocks of time with something in 4 hour chunks. Just let the blocks naturally fill with whatever makes you happy. The best part of not raiding anymore is that you now have blocks of time you don't have to schedule!

But asking what normal people do on weeknights is probably a bad idea on a board like this. I'd venture to say nobody here is qualified to answer that question since pretty much nobody still posting here would count as normal.

Since I quit WoW (I'm waiting for SWTOR or GW2 to try an MMO again), I've caught up on a bunch of movies I've missed out on, console games, anime, TV shows, and various websites I used to frequent. Who cares what the "normal" people do?
I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?
