Seriously in most pageants I dealt with (too fucking many) the stage walk was 75% of their grade and the remainder was split up among the design of their dress and oh yeah trivia answers.

When 'talent' factors into it later on the breakdown is still pretty fucking sad. God I get so angry thinking about this shit but iirc the Miss Georgia pageant's score breakdown was:

70% Stage Presentation
10% Dress
10% THEIR FUCKING HAIR
10% Talent/Trivia

It's not uncommon for contestants to use false teeth during competition. Some don't go that full mile and just use colored wax to fill in for gaps or discoloration.

It's a Miss USA Pageant, so the winner is supposed to go around helping people and stuff. It doesn't end with the crowning supposedly. Every year, the previous winner has some montage of the shit they did around the country. Usually helping clean stuff and talk to kids.

"Listen, Bethany, he offered me a... you know, a blow job once. In the, um, civics section of the library."
"Oh my god," she gasps, disgusted. "Where's the check?"
"Didn't Robert Hall get kicked out for doing his thesis on Babar? Or something like Babar?" I ask. "Babar the elephant? The, oh Jesus, French elephant?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Listen to me," I say. "Didn't he go to business school at Kellogg? At Northwestern, right?"
"He dropped out," she says without looking at me.
"Listen." I touch her hand.
She flinches and pulls back.
I try to smile. "Robert Hall's not a fag-"
"I can assure you of that," she says a tad too smugly. How can anyone get indignant over Robert Hall? Instead of saying "Oh yeah, you dumb sorry bitch" I say soothingly, "I'm sure you can," then, "Tell me about him. I want to know how things stand with the two of you," and then, smiling, furious, full of rage, I apologize. "I'm sorry."
It takes some time but she finally relents and smiles back at me and I ask her, once again, "Tell me more," and then, under my breath, smiling a rictus at her, "I'd like to slice open your beaver." The chardonnay has mellowed her, so she softens and talks freely.

Probably because "America" is in our name, and not anyone else's, sort of like how Koreans are called Koreans even though they may be from the "People's Republic of" or something, or how no one knows how to address Englishmen because there are too many god damn names.

Technically, Mort AND Faz are correct. Mort would be correct if we were naming collections of people based on continent, though, and Faz is correct based on country name.

And naming conventions for countries with similar names tend to be contextual or, by default, based on the prevalence of said country. There may be another "United States of" whatever out there, but generally if people say "The United States" it is assumed they mean the United States of America.

Gets even weirder when you jump languages. In English, referring to the "E.U." generally refers to the "European Union" but look on products in the grocery store (for instance) and "E.U." usually means "Estados Unitos", which is of course the shorthand Spanish for United States. I would not want to be the translator for the United Nations.
